This can't be a real post. I haven't used CDs in my vehicles in years, even before CarPlay. I get people still have them but you can't buy a VHS anymore either.

I just went back and watched the promotional videos and did not see a CD player unless Rivian is hiding it somewhere. Most of the time I listen to the radio bit I have a couple cd's that I pop in every now and then. I would think a cd player was standard in most vehicles.
I presume this is satire and a joke at this point. I don't think cars have come with CD players this entire decade.

The monthly charges for streaming music is not the only problem I have with the trend in vehicle options. My issue is that I own the music already and I like to listen to the whole album not just a "Hot" song pushed by the music producers. The ads are annoying and the signal is not always there, and controling the music source is easier via a CD.
I once subscribed to a "Rolling Stone radio" channel and what the station played was way out of that style because the music idiot that chose the band content was just that.
So, I am one of those "Old People" that have and use CD's. If the Rivian made it easier to stream source that would be a comprimize.

When we got our first 20GB iPod in the early 2000's, I imported ALL of our 800+ CD's to iTunes so we could take it with us (even though we had to remove music to add new stuff). Each CD purchased after that imported as well. Now Apple Music recognizes the music you own so it's always with all of us on the family account without adds or issues. If you have a CD reader for your computer it's not too late... (but I recognize that's a big "if").

I am another old guy who happens to agree with you. I think the easiest solution that Rivian could implement is a data ready usb port. Then some other company could sell the CD player device you could plug in. Last time i checked, the R1 vehicles had no such port. I suspect the R2 doesnt either. I am currently using a USB stick with my favorite albums in my BMW iX. Terrific sound fidelity - better than anything over bluethooth, etc. And, the BMW software recognizes each album and displays the cover and lists the tunes to choose from. and the BMW sound system is quite nice. I do hope the BMW iX3 has the same capabilities.

I did buy an external CD / DVD spiner having a USB port / Cable. I could copy, transfer to a TB USB and do the same, but the formatting and the compatablity and file size is not as easy as "Pop in a CD". I do not find the IT of things exciting or even enjoyable, I am retired, so like others that need to "IT" all day, I have no skill set or attraction to that.
The compatability of OS and apps and the "Just do this or that" does not always work. But, if the Rivian did have a USB port on the dash, and when a drive was enserted into it, the control panel recognized it, and the folders and files were touch screen selectable, and this actually worked without us being Beta Tested on by some Android, I would go with that.
