ABRP now has Rivian R2 specs loaded, and the implied highway ranges are interesting:

21” R2
65 mph: ~300 miles
70 mph: ~255 miles
75 mph: ~225 miles

20” R2
65 mph: ~270 miles
70 mph: ~225 miles
75 mph: ~205 miles

R2 appears to be speed-sensitive, and the 21” setup may have ~25 miles more range than the 20” setup at highway speeds

So at 75 mph using 70% of battery will net usable range of 158 miles (21”) vs 143 miles (20”)

The delta of only 15 miles is pretty insignificant, so in my view the 20” option is the clear winner here.

Adding further confusion to my choices. Welp, I have until at least November to decide.

this is with the 20" off road tires on the Performance model, I'm assuming?

Everything is speed sensitive.

What was your methodology to get those numbers?

They show a reference consumption of 3.52 mi/kWh for the 21", and 3.29 for the 20". R1S Standard Pack with 22" range is 2.66.

For my Mach-E it's 3.24, and for my Lightning it's 2.0.

I can't imagine how it beats the Mach-E for efficiency.

ABRP provided values for each over a 350 mile trip estimate (~67 mph; ~280 miles vs 255 miles for 100%). I adjusted each MPK to account for speed change.

Overly conservative estimates IMO. Seems more like winter range (32 degrees).
For that, you can subtract around 30 miles so the cold range for both will be roughly 115 miles (+/- 5) in the cold/winter.

Seems like an awful amount of work to decipher ABRP, why not plug into the Rivian Nav and follow it?

Tracks the EPA dynomometer coefficients pretty well, though falling more aggressively with speed, which makes sense given the shape and the lack of the EPA data to account for anything over ~75mph.

21” R2
65 mph: ~300 miles vs 292mi
70 mph: ~255 miles vs 264mi
75 mph: ~225 miles vs 240mi

20” R2
65 mph: ~270 miles vs 266mi
70 mph: ~225 miles vs 239mi
75 mph: ~205 miles vs 215mi

My calculator - EVBench EPA Data

Note - if I plug in 5500ft elevation, we get a perfect match (265mi) for the State of Charge range test of 260mi with 4mi in reserve on the 20" wheels

Just heads up that I don’t believe the R2 is capable of 500 miles of range at 40 mph…that would imply 5.7 MPK…my best guess is it might be 4.0 to 4.5 MPK at 40 mph…so definitely under 400 miles of range…

I would not bet against it, but yes, the math falls apart at the extremes. I can regularly get over 3mi/kWh on my R1T around town in good weather. And lots of the reviewers seemed to see 4+. I think it's plausible.

As an example...

On the recent Bolt Ionna trip, they needed to make it 341mi on a single charge in a Chevy Bolt. They averaged about 40-44mph and got 5.5mi/kWh, which matches why my calculator estimates :)

But that's a tough comparison. On one hand they were drafting during a lot of it. On the other hand, they had to fight snow and rain. On the other other hand, they went way up in altitude... Lots of messy variables.
