That is just a bit of slop. At one point it says that the app ONLY uses drive energy to compute kw usage (not sure how it would get just that data anyway). And then later it says the in dash display only uses drive energy. ??? So sadly not an answer. Hmmm
Does Rivian Roamer only use drive energy? I won’t be able to test this until I get an R2, but if anyone wants to post session details and RR data from the same drive, that will help us figure things out!

Why does my efficiency on Rivian Roamer not match my in-vehicle display?
Rivian only exposes battery percentage and net battery capacity through their API — not the actual energy consumed.
This means Rivian Roamer has to calculate energy usage based on the change in battery percentage and reported capacity. Due to rounding and the thermal reservation mentioned above, these calculated values may not always match what your vehicle displays.

Rivian Roamer is only able to use what's exposed via the app (and a few extra things). All I have access to is SOC and battery capacity. This means there is a decent standard deviation in efficiency accuracy. It's wider for shorter drives but gets more accurate the longer the drive is.

This is a limitation on source data. Though I may have found a sneaky way to make it much, much more accurate.

And many others have stated there are plenty of areas where you can drive at this speed for a prolonged distance (you even mentioned 65-67 mph which would yield similar results). So the data was very useful and from reports R2 underperformed at all speeds including urban driving. Awaiting the videos.
Well technically no.. if you drive nonstop at 70 you AVERAGE 70, but if you drive often at 70 and AVERAGE 65, your avg is going to be well 65.. and we’ve seen the difference between an actual avg of 70, and and avg of 65, is ~ 8-10%.

That’s why something like the OOS “70 mph challenge” which was essentially avg 70 for 2-3 hours got ~ 255 miles and other reports with drivers doing normal driving, targeting 70, sometimes hitting 80, but after 1-1.5 hours their AVERAGE is 63, (from start, to drive, so interchanges, to high speed merging, to settling, to slowing - and yes the possible pit stop, their projected “range” iis landing in the ~ 275-285 range.. just what one would expect.

I have examples from my TM3LR.. a 192 mile road trip that is done often and will be my key compare for the R2

End to end, top speed 87, final 70 of 192 miles was AVG 80, with max speed of 87, overall trip AVG was 72.. 98% highway all 65+ posted speeds final 70 miles 70 mph posted speed obviously I travelled Avg 80 For that last 35% of the journey.

What is interesting is if I take the R2 on ABRP, bring DOWN The lofty 3.55mile/kw they have parked in the config, to 3.10 mile/kw, I get the same result essnentially within ~ 5%.

Now the R2, for THIS journey might do ~ 2.6-2.8, that would lower it of course more.

I have been reading all this range testing stuff.

The R2 will be our first EV, but I am going in eyes wide open, that being said I find this fixation with efficiency at a certain speed to be over the top. On a road trip we do not get the luxury of a “beem me up Scotty” and magically travel a given speed on a whole trip.

I drive a lot less now that I am in Utah, but when I was in Florida I drove a lot, typically 25,000 every 6 months in a large SUV ICE vehicle. I always kept track of average speeds and MPG because I am OCD.

The above said, all I care about is real world point to point efficiency. I really do not see the point of needing to know the KW/H usage at each constant speed. Based on what I have learned, the damned R2 will tell you well in advance when you need to stop next. In ICE cars you need to decide on your own when to stop and what your tolerance for a low fuel tank is. ICE range/fuel stops have “range anxiety” too, but obviously a lot more choice/options. Why ICE anxiety? To me stopping in an unsafe area at a bad time can be a bad choice, so make a stop sooner than necessary rather than stop at a more efficient (by ICE standards) fuel stop in a dangerous (to me) area.

Long road trips involve choices, EV or ICE.

OK, might have been a rant, if so I apologize.

Note: I fly a backcountry plane in the mountain west over inhospitable terrain so trust me I am well aware of range anxiety so even though I may have not owned an EV previously I am no noob idiot.

Sounds like you are well aware that in Utah the semis are going 80-plus mph…I found driving under 80/85 mph to be nearly impossible…that’s prob. the worst case situation where charging between stops might be 120 miles (every 1.5 hours). Average speed will be important, and if traveling ~65 mph then 100% range is 240 miles (roughly 150 miles between charging stops). So as you can see, some folks aren’t super pleased that they will need to stop every 2 hours for ~30 minutes…

I do get it! I think folks that are not pleased should maybe look at another vehicle choice. Just seems silly to buy an expensive (to me) vehicle knowing it will give you challenges you don’t like.

And IF they decide to opt out my Sept/Oct order invite might get here quicker ;)

I drive 80 on 15 through UT regularly and it’s no problem, 75 or so would be fine as well. I also travel secondary roads where slower speeds are required. I see few scenarios where I couldn’t take an R2 currently and more chargers are being worked in more remote areas. Aside from edge cases and personal preferences I believe all the range anxiety being pushed by early “testers” is overblown and unwarranted. ABRP and PlugShare are your friends, plan ahead and strategize to ease your concerns.
