I'm curious, why the restriction to LPF? Because right now, most vehicles (not just Rivian) that use LPF battery chemistry tend to have smaller range (as the chemistry has a lower energy density compared to other battery chemistries)...

Purely for thermal runaway concerns and with a home charger and not doing road trips, range is unimportant to me. I could live with a 100-200 mile battery with charging in my garage from my solar panels. My battery engineer prior colleague back in Michigan advised to avoid NCM/NMA and shared some test videos for failure mode analysis. Just a poof of white smoke for LFP versus what we've all seen for Lithium Ion that becomes essentially unextinguishable as it propogates its own oxygen. LFP doesn't do that. I've seen the relative occurrence studies, as probably did some shipping companies with lost boats and State Farm before they made this decision. Just reserved and filled out the form. Not sure if it's true or not, but the SC rep told me that current owners get bumped up in line. Honestly I don't need that as much as I need the extra time to convince my wife that she wants the R2 as her next car when the Honda Odyssey lease is up. Although I'm sure my daughter will gladly take it.

If you don't have a reservation already, there is basically no chance of getting an R2 in the "first half 2026". That's when customer deliveries are supposed to start. There's an outside chance with a Dune R1T you could jump the line a little, but I would be shocked if that happened enough to get you that far ahead in the order line.

Having said that, if you are interested in an R2 purchase, you should put a reservation in now. It's only a $100 refundable deposit to get in line. If the timing works out, great. If not, request a refund on the deposit once you decide that isn't the route you'll go and they've got the production up to the point that the reservation is pretty much meaningless - ie: when it's just as fast for a new order as if you had a reservation.
