Is there any new information as to whether the R2S will have a spare tire and if so what type?

There have been no specs on the R2 at all - drivetrain, battery, or anything else as of this moment. Which means also no spare tire info either.

Follow all Rivian social accounts. And per Q3 earnings call yesterday, no product details until "early 2026". But you can count on it being a space saver spare—as a additonal cost option, just like it is now. Not likely to have enough room inside to hold a full size spare.

I'm highly skeptical they can fit any sort of spare tire inside the cabin, however they did patent a swing out spare tire carrier that appeared as if it was designed for the R2. This would be a good option since the roll down rear glass would give you the ability to access the cargo area without having to get the tire out of the way every time.

This is the closest thing I could find as "information". That area does sort of look scooped out for a round object, but it'd get in the way of the loading floor, so I have no idea.

So many cars now come without spare tire. Its not a good trend.

There are many spare tire carrier options that are hitch mounted. But like with a Jeep Wrangler you want a matching wheel and tire, which can be expensive. And yes, the ability to access the rear cargo area without having to move the spare tire will be useful with the current R2 window design.

Unfortunately the vehicle will no longer fit in my garage if I have a wheel mounted in the back.

In the recent Doug Demuro review you can see how they carved out a space that looks like it's made specifically for a compact spare tire.
