If you road trip a rivian r2 and a model Y I think the R2 would lose. The charging is the same on both vehicles but the tesla has more stations.
Model Y is more efficient. That is where it would catch and pass a R2 on a long road trip. We have to keep in mind, the Model 3 and Y is now 10 year old technology. The R2 tech is going to age quickly. Everyone has already been complaining about Tesla not advancing their battery tech quick enough. So comparing the R2 to an aging platform isn't ideal.
For most people an 8 hr road trip is enough, and your car can do most of those miles one one charge.
I am a glutton for punishment. Use to do 800mile road trip in one day in a Lyriq(1600mile round trip). Summer was always a joy, turning on hvac would kill charging speeds. Every stop was a sweat fest.

While I agree with your overall sentiment, I do believe it is a little bit overstated though. Ubiquitous 800v chargers are still a few years away, probably by 2030 they will match or exceed all of the 400v chargers we have today. Walmart, IONNA, Rivian, MB, Tesla V4, are all building out the 800v network. We definitely have some around today for sure but you can't just pull over and know it's an 800v charger; you have to seek them out.

So we need that first. Then comes the cars need to all be 800v. Well same as the chargers situation we have some today but not a lot - BMW, Volvo, Hyundai, Porsche, etc. - not exactly mainstream America. That will also take a few more years before Rivian and Tesla switch over. I imagine Tesla is reluctant too until they build out a bunch more true V4 stations that can do 800v. Rivian will move over to 800v in their next gen R1 that desperately needs it bc they have such big batteries and then R2 maybe will follow in its refresh after that in 3 years.

Slowly but surely things change but it isn't overnight. We are 3-4 years away at best by my estimation. So even if that does happen by 2030, what do we lose with R2 in its current state? 5 minutes, maybe 10 minutes of charging time? Not really a huge deal unless you're just a massive road tripper doing thousands of miles often.

Efficiency generally does not matter because the less efficient EV should ideally have the same range from a larger pack

A larger pack would generally not charge slower because the C-rate would be the same

The place that you do take a hit is the case of rivian only maxing at 225kW vs tesla 250 but it's not for very long
