Really, Gear Shop? Overpack much?

Well, I finally have the proper socks to complete my Gear Guard Gary outfit.
But ridiculously, the Gear Shop sent them in an oversized box, wrapped in bubble wrap.

They're socks, Rivian! They don't need to be wrapped in bubble wrap! A simple padded envelope would have sufficed!

Business don't pay retail shipping rates. They pay less. And it'd probably cost Rivian more money to stock more sizes of boxes than shipping air. And don't worry about it. It's all figured into retail price of merch and accessories. They're not losing money.

It's more trash for me to throw out. For a company based on "treating the environment well", that makes a point of the actual product packaging being environmentally-friendly, that's a waste of packing.

Then maybe you can do your part by buying less crap? The cardboard is made from recycled pulp and can be recycled again. The plastic bubble wrap could also have been made from recycled plastic and recycled again. Chaining yourself to a random old growth tree is probably more productive than this feigned outrage.

I got front windshield wiper blades. One driver and one passenger. Passenger side came in it’s on corrugated box (that would likely survive WWIII) and, yup, driver came in a separate tank-like box.

Double-barrel boxes. I laughed a little.

I got the same. But some other things were packed together at least. Using up my $500 referrals credit.
