Have we received any official wording on this? Don't see them on the configurator on the Rivian website.

If this is the case, not to be dramatic, but a bit devastated. Probably the two best colors, IMO.
Neither are popular. I think I've seen exactly one Canyon Red in the wild. I wanted to like it when I ordered my R1S, but I just didn't. Ended up with Glacier White. I really wish Rivian would offer some bolder color options.

Hate to tell you, but that's exactly where we're at with Rivian now. Grayscale and Rivian Blue. (I don't count forest green as a standout color, it's so dark it's effectively gray)

I'm also annoyed because the bold colors are not as popular as they could be because they're stupid expensive..
They have no "bold colors". By design, everything is muted to"blend in with nature". I wish they would offer some bright, bold colors.

One thing I disagree with is the muted color options. Why turn away folks who want something cool, even if limited. I was all in on forest green then saw Red Canyon in real life.

Just returned from a cross country adventure with my son and granddaughter. We always pointed out that in mall parking lots, this truck was easy to find as it was charging. My granddaughter always said, it's the only yellow one. But then there was the occasional school bus...

I'm glad you like your Canyon Red. I wish they would offer some bolder options such as candy apple and bright metallic green or blue. I went with Glacier White because I felt like the black trim and black out package made it stand out a bit.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.

This sucks. I hope they at least come up with two new colors. Unfortunately I think the R2 will have even more limited options. It’s all about cutting margins to stay alive at this point.

I've very happy with my forest green, but I had hoped to make a future purchase (in some number of years) to be canyon red.

I hope whatever new colors they come out with end up on the more colorful side. We don't need more silvers, grays, dunes, or similar. Color is good.

Don't despair :) After months of development I am done with our full wrap, which wraps around edges so we can offer it in color PPF. We have over 300 colors (https://twraps.com/collections/twraps-paint-protection-film) and this is a relatively easy DIY project that takes 2 days to complete in your garage. I am finalizing the install video today but check it out:

(to clarify this is not a blue Rivian wrapped in stealth film...it's a black Rivian wrapped in Matte Magic Flame Dark Blue color PPF).

Sharing this for posterity (although the Red Canyon has a matte wrap in this photo):

My 2 cents briefly: I personally prefer bold colors (my wife picked the Limestone in this photo) and I think that's part of what made early Rivian fun. I loved the early "Skittles" color choices but I know they're not for everyone. I'm sure there are good reasons for these discontinuations, although the discontinuation of Limestone is confusing to me. Seemed popular. It's a very interesting, chameleon color in person. It's neutral enough to attract many. Great nature inspiration behind it.

I personally wanted to love Compass Yellow, but when I saw it in person I kept thinking mustard. I know some love it and that's great. I wanted to be there. Just not feeling it personally. Similarly I loved the red-orange in Red Canyon, which is why I picked it, while I know many hated the orange. I am happy with Rivian Blue. It is the boldest color remaining and I believe was RJ's initial favorite. I actually really like Launch Green. Hated in computer renderings but in person, to me, it's a unique chef's kiss.

I do find the current color offerings quite bland overall, but I'm sure new options are in the pipeline for R2. I'm personally on team burnt orange, which again would be niche, but like I said - my 2 cents.

Bring back THE FUN, Rivian! :)

The painting process is very time consuming for any auto maker. Each time they change the hue, all the nozzles and dipping pool paint have to completely change.

My guess is that Red Canyon and Limestone painting layers must have costed more than other colors, given how the color seem to change with how the light refracts on the surface. Rather than charging more for the paint option, they simply removed it to keep the costs down. Also these colours may have been a bottleneck in production between the paint finish QC and lack of quantity.

Back when they dropped yellow, there was a list of color popularity that as I recall was released by Rivian as part of their "justification" for dropping yellow, and it was related to delivery timelines. People had to wait for the next "batch" of Compass Yellow and Red Canyon vehicles because they were not popular colors. For the first year or more, Rivian was trying to make the paint shop more efficient by running colors in batches. There's a thread here somewhere. Red Canyon was near the bottom of popularity. Love my Red Canyon!
We love our Red Canyon too! I can't believe they are dropping it.

Was this during the forecast fire haze from a few summers back? Forgot about how dramatic that was.
That was in Brooklyn June of ‘23 during the Canadian wildfires. It was intense.
