Refund of overpayment?

Hey all!

First off, I love the truck. I’ve had it since the beginning of June. Had to have HVAC replaced due to a cracked heater core seal, but what do you do? Service took care of me.

So, the issue here is, I accidentally overpaid Rivian by 1k because I didn’t account for my deposit when submitting the final payment. I’ve been trying to get it back for 4 months now and keep getting ignored. I brought it up with my guide a few months back and he said I should get any refund owed paid back to me after registration, including taxes or overpayment. Well, that came and went (I’ve had tags for more than a month) and I never received a check.

I messaged my guide again a couple weeks ago and never got a response, went through chat and even sent an email to customer service and haven’t gotten a response. Chat was like “we’ll look into it”. I have photographic proof of the check and the Purchase Agreement showing how much was owed and how much the check was made out for.

I know, this is on me and it was my mistake, but it shouldn’t be that difficult for financing to look and see the mistake and refund the money, should it? Just wondering if anyone else is owed a refund and hasn’t gotten it.

I had to get a refund due to needing to register the vehicle myself. Rivian sent me the paperwork, but not the check. I had to bug my guide weekly for over a month. I had the best luck with calling or texting rather than email.

I got a bit of a refund because I paid for the all weather mats as part of my initial order and cancelled them when they changed the color. I've had my truck about 3 weeks and got my refund check for the mats in the mail yesterday.

I actually owe them money (I won't get into why).
Reached out to my guide and asked how I could make payment, was told that it will eventually work its way through the system and that I should just enjoy the truck.

Got a refund check for the money I paid to them to file my DMV paperwork that they sent back to me to file myself. The check took about two weeks after they sent the paperwork back to me. (Notably *after* I had already visited the DMV myself and paid it.)

Reached out to my guide and asked how I could make payment, was told that it will eventually work its way through the system and that I should just enjoy the truck.

@Aroohoo you could just pay @keb33509 and solve both your problems, and Rivians, at once since they are not very good in the accounting dept.
Like many I had to pay sales tax to my state when I self registered after Rivian already collected sales tax during the purchase process. The refund including the document fee and registration fee was refunded by Rivian but after the Illinois temp. tag was expired. Rivian could not legally advise me to drive on an expired tag and I was also unwilling so Rivian agreed to reimburse for a rental vehicle until until resolved. Now I am just waiting for the reimbursement for the rental.
I am not sure who is screwing up the registration process between Rivian or there 3rd party registration provider or the state DMV but the process as it was administered to me is certainly unsustainable. It is a real shame that such a remarkable vehicle with so many benefits to the consumer is so greatly hampered by a seemingly simple administrative process.

Is it possible that you didn’t overpay by $1000, because the deposit was automatically included in the system? It would be hard to get the refund if there wasn’t one coming.

So I guess the first thing you need to do is to get someone to acknowledge that you did in fact overpay and they do in fact owe you. Perhaps you’ve done this already? It would be easy from that point… one would hope anyhow.

Has anyone had a trade-in that exceeded the price of the Rivian? I traded in my Tesla and the difference was $15k that Rivian owes me. The guide basically explained that after I took delivery they would mail me a check but it has been almost 3 weeks with nothing. Haven’t received registration or title on the truck either.

This week will be 8 weeks since receiving my registration, so they must think I’m not getting one. I plan on trying to call them tomorrow and see if I can get the ball rolling. Still no response from my guide or from customer service.

Finally received my refund of overpayment about a week ago. My guide’s internal e-mail address appears to have changed. When I called them, they were very apologetic and got the information over to financing to confirm my concern about needing a refund. A couple days later, my guide reached out and said he’d work with financing to resolve. Received the check a couple weeks after.
