Same for me, but can you even program PAAK or the fob without the key cards? I don’t exactly remember initial setup.
When I purchased a second key fob it had to be programed at the SC, was not a user available option. When I replaced my phone I was able to delete the old one and add the new one without a keycard.

... To any of the posters who offered a constructive comment I appreciate it. To all the others who just try to chime in with some snarky comment spare me. And get a life.
What if we (I) did both?

Glad to hear they have improved the 2nd owner transition, took me a couple weeks to get my info loaded after purchase. Also took a lot of calls and emails to get the warranty transfer guaranteed in writing.

Would you be calling Toyota bitching about only getting one set of keys with a used car and then crying about how they won’t mail it to your house? Didn’t think so. Having to make an appointment to go get new keys is pretty standard.
Except if you have a Tesla.
They'll mail you fobs and key cards that you can pair yourself.

Since people always throw out the price of the Rivian as justification of why things should be easy and the way they want it, I took look at the process of getting a mercedes key replacement. Turns out it requires a visit to the dealer for service, in order to prove ownership of the vehicle and to program. It's about $300 -$350 each key. If you remember the Movie Gone in 60 Seconds, it's even harder than Rivian to get the key.

Also, in 6 months of ownership, I've yet to use the key cards. Valet drivers may know tesla cars, but clueless with the Rivian. Fob turned out to be the easiest option.
I give the key card to valet drivers... they understand.

@Eugenio,

I purchased an additional keycard from someone who totalled their Rivian a few months ago. Keep your eyes open if you should need more, it was a great option.

Once I received it, I called customer service and they opened a ticket and assigned it to the appropriate team and within a couple hours it was added to my account and they called to confirm the same. There should be no reason for a SC appointment or mobile tech unless they are not able to ship/send a keycard.

Hope this is helpful!

They have picture directions, I hope they can figure it out.
You'd be surprised. I've only used the valet 4 times since we got the R1S 6 months ago. I'm not big on using them, but when the lots are full and the spots are tiny, I figure it is a better option then door dings and scratches. Well, first couple times, I explained where to place the key card in order to open and drive the car. Both times, a different valet came back and asked if I could go with to the car, because he couldn't get it to open. Third time, the valet had to come back and talk to the first guy who I explained it to. Fourth time, I remembered to take the FOB and had zero issues. I didn't have to explailn anything and the car was brought out without any issues. I wasn't even mad, because I get it, Rivian's aren't that popular yet. Also, I'm 100% certain, if I gave my wife the key card and told her to go get the car, she would come back empty handed, and it's her car. Why, because she uses the phone 100% of the time and all her previous cars had FOBs. The picture on the back means zero in the dark.

The Tesla screen displays a graphic of where to place the key card if it's not detected.
