Got it. The best I could find for the X5 was 2k off sticker. Haven't pulled the trigger just yet on it.

I am hoping they will pass on the 7k savings via lease (which will likely be less after all the associated lease fees). Alas, that’s better than nothing. I doubt dealers will budge much. In July, they are rolling out iDrive8.5 with an updated GPU. I’m going to hold until then to order and hoping for delivery by September.

Just out of curiosity, which early adopter risks tipped the scale for you? Reports of panel misalignment? Reports of mechanical issues? Rivian's start up status and production curve? Immature public charging infrastructure? Or just all of the above? (To be clear, I think any of these can be legit concerns depending on your preferences and situation, especially if this would be your first EV. On the other hand, I don't think the anecdotal negative reports about quality issues on this forum are representative of the broader owner population.)

A few things tipped me over.
1. I wanted a luxury SUV. Comfort was a priority. Ride quality of the R1S seemed like a second thought. Wind noise also.
2. Basic issues such as poor alignment (I followed a new production R1S the other day and the rear camber was FUbAR).
3. Constant software failures such as 12v system, Christmas tree lights, motor failures, air suspension issues. Plugging in two 12v in sync is a stupid set up and not up to field repairs.
4. The GUI is not great. Spoiled by Tesla in the sense that Maps work nearly perfect, Spotify works consistently, and the user profiles just “work” without issue.
5. Vampire drain was a huge concern. With California energy costs at $0.40/kWh, it’s expensive. All things considered, it doesn’t get that great of economy and offsetting it’s cost by fuel savings isn’t there. The fact that they have to disable (hood) sensors when sleeping “to fix” the problem speaks volumes to the development and oversight to this.
6. They pushed orders out an additional year because we had locked in lower prices. They should recognize the cost of loss profit bodes well in word of mouth and advertisement and is cheaper and more effective than a commercial on TV. Now they won’t get any money from me and it’ll look worse on their quarterly financials.
7. The biggest concern is that it would turn into a paperweight when the company gets bought out, goes bankrupt, or closes all the service centers. They had significant headwinds and their current leadership in place is stale and needs to be restructured. The fact that their stock value barely holds water speaks volumes. Amazon pulling back on their orders is also of concern. They won’t stay in business selling $100k trucks designed for adventure and there is no where to charge or service them near the adventure.

I had made a lot of concessions for the new company but at this time, they are not doing themselves any favors by failing to focus on quality and customer service.

I look at Stark Vark, an electric motorcycle to be released, and they communicate updates every 2 weeks what the company is working on and current development. Rivian? I got an email confirming my delivery was pushed 6 months from previous communication which already pushed it an additional year - well after production was in full swing.

I had the 2022 BMW X5 45e, fully loaded since Oct 2021. It did qualify for $7500 at the time that's why I went with it over regular model. Ended up selling it last week (~7800 miles) since I be taking delivery of R1S soon. And I have another car as backup for now.

Two things to keep in mind regarding the X5 45e plug in:

-Slow Charge, its best you charge nightly. Make sure you get different charger with Nema 14-50 plug then what is included. You be chagrining for 16+ hours with included charger. You should avg around 30-35 miles depending on temperature conditions. 2024 X5 45e model should have 40+ miles range.

-If you have family with kids, the 2nd row with car seats can get really tight back there. The cargo space is okay, but not great when you have stroller. If you don't have kids and don't the need space, your are fine.

Other then that I loved the 45e for daily city driving. You can fully drive in electric if your drive locally, which I did. Half of miles I driven were fully on electric and other half on gas. Reason I ended up selling it because it didn't really work for us with 2 younger kids.
