Mine also locks immediately upon inserting regardless of door lock status. Rebooting don't change anything. The instant I insert the drawer it locks.

If you're drawer isn't locking right away even when the doors are unlocked, perhaps it is your car that needs rebooting.
Thanks for your concern. I don't use my camp speaker. It pulls out easily when parked. I don't have any problems with it.

This thread is not talking about the camp speaker. We are talking about the drawer.

Although it goes in the slot where the camp speaker was, Rivian knows it is a drawer and not a speaker. The display calls it a drawer and shows a picture of a drawer on the screen.

This drawer was made to lock/unlock like the speaker. No one forced to read my posts.

Just to update I tried a soft and hard reboot with no avail. I can put my speaker in and it works as it’s supposed to locking and unlocking, but this drawer locks immediately, and will only unlock from the screen. I’m assuming there’s an issue with the contacts on the drawer that the Rivian’s not reading correctly

Yes it is the same shape as the speaker, but the chip in it is telling the car that it is a drawer. And it seems the car treats drawers differently than speakers.

If you don't have a drawer, you are confusing people by telling them that their cars are not working as expected.

Out of stock on both sites. Hopefully the code is still usable when the drawer is back in stock.

OK so I've tested this and the conclusion, like BestEVMod said, is the screen is required to unlock it. It does not unlock like the camp speaker when the car is unlocked, at least not on mine, and that was after a soft and hard reset. I put a piece of 3M Dinoc over the pins and now the truck doesn't know it's there but it clicks in and comes out so that works for now.

I'm assuming Rivian thinks you'll put stuff in there and keep it locked. I want to use it for everyday stuff so I want to be able to open it when I want. Still a great upgrade, although not a perfect implementation yet.

I think BestEVMod's implementation is perfect. It identifys itself as a drawer, which is exactly what a drawer should do and what the OEM drawer will do if/when it comes to market.

The shortcoming is in Rivian's software.

Rivian should add lock/unlock buttons that are easier to access and add settings so users can adjust the locking behaviour.

Since the desire for tweaking the software will apply to people using the OEM drawer too I am pretty confident that an upcoming software update will address a lot of this.

Agreed it's up to Rivian to tweak the software. The drawer works great, the implementation fixes are up to Rivian now. If you don't care about locking it just put a piece of tape over it until Rivian updates the software.

My fingerprint locking drawer unlocks with car. I am going to buy one of the BestEvMod drawers so that I can keep the drawer locked all the time when vehicle unlocks.

If we were to use tape to disable the PCB, would this model slide out when braking?
Hi, feedback from an enthusiastic owner who has tested the product samples for us several times(quick shout-out to him):

I tested it with the contacts taped over, and the drawer is still very securely clamped in place. Because it doesn't lock with the tape over the contacts, you can still remove the drawer without having to unlock it through the center screen console.

However, if you place heavy objects in the drawer AND it is loose AND you slam hard on the brakes at high speed, then theoretically the heavy objects could slam into the front of the drawer and cause it to pop out of the clamp. Otherwise, I don't think it's likely to dislodge from the latch from normal driving around even if left unlocked.

Fantastic, thank you! I think that this fits everyone’s needs then. It can lock/unlock using standard rivian functionality and you can make it “never locked” by taping over the contacts. And what’s nice is that when Rivian improves the screen’s UI to make locking/unlocking more convenient…we can just remove the tape ?

ordering now (well, when it’s available again)!
