They are optional, don't turn the steering wheel while backing up.

I've had vehicles with and without lines on the backup camera view.

I don't use the lines but my wife does. In either case, you'll get used to it one way or another.

Using the mirrors or turning your head clearly works - it has for a very long time. That said, FOV from both sides and rear camera gives better and complete view without any blind spots or views being blocked due to cargo or passengers in the rear.

My only complaint is that it doesn't align like what it is showing.

I backed up into a parking spot and the yellow line on the drivers side showed what I thought about 8" from the line. Parked the car and opened the door to see that it was on the painted line.
