Rivian R1T R1S Rivian’s James Bond Mode - Just Discovered 1EEFE627-6EDF-4EF9-B1D3-BFDBD1AB1B8C

By chance, I realized our Rivians have a feature that can be life saving in a very theatric way. Hopefully I never need to use it, but I’m sure someone is going to abuse it on YouTube at some point (and I hope Rivian doesn’t take it from us as a result).

After backing up in a hurry while using the rear view camera, I switched the car into drive and briefly started driving forwards when I realized my front windshield sunscreen was still up…

Had I wanted to, I could’ve kept going and driven the truck home like a video game because the R1T automatically switched to the forward facing camera. Don’t recommend this, but for a few seconds I drove just looking at the screen. Definitely possible.

I realized that if I made a few wrong turns and ended up in a situation where I was being shot at, I could crouch down like James Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies and drive by screen to get to safety.

Anyway, just throwing this out there in case you find yourself in the middle of a shootout ??. I’m sure there are countless other creative scenarios where this feature can come in use other than for the intended off-roading and parking.

This is by design. You have always been able to select the camera, front or rear, whenever you want.

Yup, lol, you’re right, it’s definitely not new by any means and always been able to activate the front and rear cameras when driving. But the “discovery” for me was realizing its 007-ish potential.

Admittedly a little click-baity of a post, but I still think it’s a cool use of the feature to bring up. ??‍♂?

For what it's worth the use case is off-roading, at least the motivation for it. Very nice to be able to see how close obstacles are etc.

I've used this in a manner similar to how you describe. I crested a hill (that happened to be in the middle of a curve) and the sun was at the perfect height to reflect off of the hood and shine directly into the cabin, blinding me if I looked out the windshield. I was doing 55 so there was an immediate need for visibility. Luckily I had the front camera on for fun (I only had the truck for a few months and birds eye was new) so I was able to avoid a potentially dangerous situation.

Wait, we’re in spring and you’re just realizing this? What have you been doing all winter? Clearing the windscreen like you’re supposed to?

Don’t talk about this too loud since some safely regulation may show up and force all cameras to be off while driving. They say it’s like driving and watching a video. Other cars disallow that.
