Finally Apple Car Key is rolling out for Rivian by the end of the month. Here’s a shot from a Rivian test phone running the Apple Wallet key. Looks clean and ready to go!

Does this require bringing your phone or Apple Watch to the door handle to unlock? What’s the benefit vs using the Rivian app?
i hope some other tech nerds can correct me, but i think the Apple Car Key uses NFC and or Ultrawide band technology so it theoretically will be more precise in detecting phone or watch location whereas PAAK uses Bluetooth and is imprecise trying to detect phone location.

I don’t think Gen 1 has the hardware to detect NFC.

Those with more tech savvy than I please chime in. I’m not sure if the above is correct.

It's Ultra Wideband. The physical key card is NFC.

This news has no relevance to you (or me). Apple Wallet Key has always been gen 2 only. Gen 1 do not possess UWB tech.

I’m calling BS on this picture. This is AI generated. Key cards don’t look like that in apple phones. And that notch on the phone is BS. They’d be testing on a newer phone.

I’m not saying it’s not ready, I’m just calling out the pic.

This picture looks very much AI generated. Why the need to spread rumor hype like this I don't know. Maybe OP is desperately trying to save their RIVN stock today.

No way to close the view in case you don’t want to add the card is an obvious problem with the screenshot. It should be a left pointing chevron button in the upper left in iOS 26. There is no + sign in the upper right to add the card. Instead, there is a button on the bottom to add the item to wallet.
