Dry lakebed that turned into a not-so-dry-lakebed this last Spring.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to self recover. In fact, it took three trucks pulling in train formation to get it to pop. The panelling on the bottom of these things makes them suction to mud in a way that vehicles with diffs/discontinuous skid plates do not.

Funny experience in retrospec, but a lot of sad faces (especially from the GFs) when we had to walk out 4 miles through the mud.

About 12 hrs of cleanup when I got it back home. Still find little hints of that mud when I am doing routine cleans haha.

I've otherwise had a great time with the R1 as an off roader. Realistically, this incident was not the truck's fault, entirely my own. My brother's triple locked TRD pro 4runner got stuck and I am sure my 3x locked 80 series would have also.

Yes, dry lakebeds are notorious for thick sticky mud when they get a little rain. Burning Man experienced that this year.

When I saw your first pic I thought you had been in one of those competitive mud runs.

Never thought about the flat bottom becoming like a suction cup when down on the mud. Good to know. Thanks for telling us your experience.

That looks beautiful! May I ask where is that? (Mt Whitney?)
That is Whisky Falls near Bass Lake… south of Yosemite, North of Fresno. It is very easy to get to this spot. It gets a little bit more adventurous once you keep going.

Thank you for the kind comment.
