I have noticed that 2 sensors may be damaged with this accident.I had a tiny bit of front bumper damage and it ended up at $5500 since a sensor also required repair.
My hypothesis is that when deer are scared of something else, they can't also be scared of cars. They can only be afraid of one thing at a time. Sort of like a three-year-old human, but much larger and faster. They seem suicidal.
Thank you.My hypothesis is that when deer are scared of something else, they can't also be scared of cars. They can only be afraid of one thing at a time. Sort of like a three-year-old human, but much larger and faster.
Over and over again, deer at the side of the road dart in front of traffic, reacting to things I can't see. I've also seen the same behavior from an elk calf -- the mother looked even more terrified than the calf did!
My practice is now to hit the brakes whenever I see a deer that COULD run into the road faster than I could stop. I've become an ultra-defensive driver, at least with the deer I can see. I also try hard not to drive any faster than my headlights can show me.
Glad no humans were hurt, @Billyt1963!
From the best I can tell, the truck did not try to avoid.Just wondering did the vehicle try to avoid or stop the vehicle before impact.
My truck has warned of things in front before, I wonder if the deer was just too small to register? I am pretty sure I have all warnings turned on, but it may not be to the highest setting.Interesting, my car warns me when backing up of oncoming cars and sends a warning of events in front when the vehicle appears to be at risk of hitting something. I believe my R1S has applied the brakes when coming onto another vehicle Infront of me when it sensed danger.
Just wondering if this is a setting, I have mine all set to maximum notification which can sometimes be annoying but better the hitting something.
I do with the same philosophy and watch for deer along the side of the road. When headlights are coming at me, especially if they don't dim them, it makes watching for deer tough. In my case a car had just gone by and I didn't see it at all until it was in the opposite lane heading my direction. I still managed to dodge it.My practice is now to hit the brakes whenever I see a deer that COULD run into the road faster than I could stop. There's a variety of settings you can play around with in Vehicle --> Driver Assistance. That said, anecdotally I think it only detects other vehicles. Not animals. ?I'd like to know how to increase the sensitivity of object detection and emergency braking. If this is doable, can someone point me to the correct screen(s)?
Thanks to all!
Agreed. As far as I know Volvo is the only one releasing vehicles with a Large Animal Detection and Braking feature. There's a variety of settings you can play around with in Vehicle --> Driver Assistance. That said, anecdotally I think it only detects other vehicles. Not animals. ?

Oof. Those videos. ? Hopefully it's just plastic & trim. Let us know what the final repair & timeline comes up to!
it turns out I had it on normal, I bumped it to early.I'd like to know how to increase the sensitivity of object detection and emergency braking. If this is doable, can someone point me to the correct screen(s)?
