Rivian vs deer. Repair cost?

I do with the same philosophy and watch for deer along the side of the road. When headlights are coming at me, especially if they don't dim them, it makes watching for deer tough. In my case a car had just gone by and I didn't see it at all until it was in the opposite lane heading my direction. I still managed to dodge it.

When I have watched my original video the truck coming at us barely missed the deer. The deer doesn’t look like it went straight across, but at an angle. I think if the other vehicle had hit the deer, we probably would have had it in the windshield.

Good job on the avoidance. Your deer was much Larger than the one I hit.

That's one big animal, @hgpayne! It seems big for a deer, though that may be due to the low camera angle, and it may be moving differently. Do you have elk in your area?

Just a quick update. I have State Farm and they have repair facilities they work with, but none in my area are Rivian certified. I took the truck to one of these facilities to try to move the process. The estimate they gave was $2800. Will see what the repair shop goes to.

Just keep on top of this. I took mine to a great local shop. When they got the original estimate check from the insurance company they went to order parts and could not. Weeks were wasted until they called and told me it had to go to a Rivian certified shop.

This was in Colorado and I do believe there are elk but I never saw one. I saw plenty of deer and one time some big horn sheep. They were blocking the road and I just waited for them to clear. I didn't want to make them mad and have one ram the truck. How do you explain that to the insurance company?

On a related note. The preferred Rivian repair shops said it would probably be several weeks for the repair. What SOC should I have the truck at when I go? Understand approximately 65 miles with some freeway driving. I estimate it will take about 20% to get there.

I put mine at 100% but I fully expected at least 6-8 weeks. They'll watch it and charge it if needed because they don't want more work. I dropped the charge level to my usual 80% before leaving the truck and they had charged it to 80% when I picked it up.

Thanks for the information. I was just told it would be approximately 4 weeks, so to 100% before it leaves home it is. I think I will turn off Gear Guard Gary.

If they put it in Service Mode you'll lose Gary anyway. When mine went to Rivian for an alignment it was put in Service Mode and left that way until I picked it up. I hated it being out of contact!

I hope they don’t do that, but since these folks work on Rivians, I bet they will.

My front driver side deer collision was estimated at about $5200 by insurance but ended up being $37000, taking 3 months at the Certified shop. Had to go back in for more fixes after the initial repairs were faulty. Certified Shops are having trouble getting parts from Rivian and the labor costs are almost double on the Rivian. Make sure the shop and your insurance company agree on the labor rate before starting, and have it documented. We had the insurance company try to refuse payment to the shop for the higher labor rates, thus the shop would not give us our vehicle back. Fortunately the shop manager had approval on rates from an adjuster to validate the rate being agreed upon. Good luck!

Thanks for the information and encouragement. The shop I am dealing with said they will get the money from the insurance. Right now it is estimated at 4 weeks. ??

Left lane camping is illegal in most states unless passing. Looks like you could have been spared....

The road was 2 lanes. There was an entry lane from I-24, for a small amount of time.

Had my 1st Rivian totaled being hit at a stop sign in the middle of nowhere.

I would agree with the higher side of the estimates. Scary what happens to what appears to be a normal repair.
