Robocalls from Nationwide regarding renewal

I am up for renewal in July (already?!) and lately I keep getting a robocall claiming to be Nationewide and asking me to call a renewal specialist. Anyone of you on Nationwide experienced this? Scam or just aggressive sales pitch to try to get me to switch other policies to them?

EDIT: the calls came from 855-748-4265 and asked me to call 855-573-7348

I got notification of renewal docs via email but no phone calls.
Ditto for me… renewal notice and then they took my $ via autopay (a week ago) but no phone calls.

Sounds like either a scam or an upsell. Once I hit 40 everybody and their brother wants to sell me life insurance. I was with State farm and my agent there hassled me on and off for 2 years trying to sell me life insurance.

I was pretty disappointed to find out Rivian insurance is nationwide. I’m in the process of compiling my insurance since I have a classic Porsche with hagerty, my sons car with AAA, my Tesla with Tesla insurance and my Rivian with nationwide. I had nationwide in the past and they are very aggressive to sell you products and will reach out to you WAY too often, just like Statefarm, but when my car was hit in a parking lot they gave me a whole spiel on how parking lots are public property and I had to sue the company that owns the lot. The second I get a robocall or even email about anything other than renewal I’m moving my Rivian to either Tesla insurance or AAA.
My guess would be upselling call.

I reached out to Rivian Insurance earlier today. And this is the response I just got. Hope it could be of help to anyone experiencing similar calls now or in the future.

Nationwide has started asking people to confirm the information they entered on their insurance application through a third party renewal verification service (VERISK). However, your account doesn't have any notes that your policy is one of the policies being reviewed. I would ignore that call. Thank you!

My Rivian insurance agent told me 2 years ago - "don't talk to a Nationwide Representative unless I tell you too. If you need to talk to someone contact me first.". At the time he said that nationwide didn't know how to handle Rivians. If you didn't know, Rivian insurance agents are based in Rivian facilities, not at Nationwide or the other insurance underwriter.

I normally don't answer numbers I don't recognize or aren't identified. But because the past two weeks I've been dealing with a medical emergency with my cat, I answered these calls without looking, on the off-chance that it's from the vet while my cat is in their care.

I got suspicious because I logged into my Nationwide account to see if there are any notifications and saw nothing.

Additional revelations from the Rivian/Nationwide advisor. I asked if I choose to not to renew, try another insurer for a while, would I be able to come back to Rivian/Nationwide at a later time.

Here is the reply:
Thank you for reaching out. This is an important question, as insurance carriers have been changing their new business guidelines quite a bit lately. At this time, we are not issuing new policies for single vehicles. Additionally, if Nationwide changes their minds on this and starts letting us write those policies again, we will not be able to add new car replacement to that policy, as that coverage can only be added within the vehicle's first six months being in your possession. My apologies for that. If you still shop around and leave, we may have another carrier by the time you wish to return. We cannot make any promises though, as it's been very hard to find a carrier that's interested in signing up new agencies in CA given most want to shrink their business in the state.

All these responses seem scripted. It looks like they’re making some significant changes. I just emailed my Rivian insurance advisor yesterday asking if I could bundle my homeowners insurance with the auto policy, and was told that they’re no longer offering homeowners insurance through Nationwide in Illinois, but would be able to bundle me with a homeowner policy through Cincinnati Insurance.

I've had Cincinnati for 14 years now, love them. Sadly this prevented me from using Rivian insurance since they have a no-poaching agreement with brokers.

Ok that makes sense. I was told that they’d not insure the home without the auto.
