Not sure why your truck should be rubbing. I have the same wheel and I have an even bigger tire than you, 285/60/20! No rubbing whatsoever and I drive in sport mode at the lowest setting.
Have you tried driving at the lowest setting? I can't imagine that it would make a difference, but worth a try?

Oh man I love the yellow. Don’t rub it in that my wife wouldn’t let me get it. ?

But yeah, I’ve tried all the heights. I don’t notice it on high but it won’t stay in that at higher speeds. The lower the height the more rubbing in my case. In kneel, it rubs just when pulling out of parking spots turning the wheel, and in low it will rub in small dips in the road, and standard it’ll usually take larger dips to rub.

I would venture to ask if you did recalibration on the truck for stock 20in size? The tires are larger than the 21 or 22in, so recalibration might adjust height, camber, etc to accommodate larger tires. I swapped and have no rubbing, but I am running r80B. I went from 21in and had recalibrated day of install.

Your tire is smaller, probably why you don’t have rubbing and OP does. His tire is 0.6” larger diameter

Good catch! I didn't catch that. I read it as 285/65/20 originally.

No as I mentioned, I did not have it calibrated. But it doesn't make sense that calibration would make this large of a difference, since I still get rubbing at standard height. Rivian quotes the same ride height adjustments regardless of wheel size, so if calibration did make this large of a difference, then you'd actually have much less travel when using the 20" wheels.

I had planned on getting it calibrated, but my speedometer is dead accurate without the recalibration, so didn't want to mess with it. I have the new manager at the COS SC looking into it, but I've had no one (Rivian or customer) who has been able to confirm that calibration changes anything with suspension travel, and it leans towards a "no" for this question. Calibration is only supposed to update the camera calibrations for the added height, as well as speedometer calibration. Neither of which I'm having any issues with currently.

That is strange though because I think I have the same offset on mine and it is minimal difference really. Is it scrubbing on the top or the edge of the fender? I haven’t ever scrubbed and drive in auto most of the time. I have about 5K miles in scrub free.

Your tire is right on the ragged edge for clearance, so rubbing on kneel is almost a given and in the low setting on dips would be a strong possibility, especially on turns. I spoke with my SC manager about this because I have custom wheels and slightly larger tires, and he said, "the calibration doesn't 'necessarily' adjust suspension parameters, as much as it does tire circumference in software". (whatever necessarily means).

Mine rarely rub, with the exception of kneel coming out of the driveway. I think in your case, this is, "an is what it is scenario" for you.

We have seen reports on this forum of people whose R1s are slightly lower than others. I remember a thread where some guy measured his and another R1, both at standard ride height. His was like an inch lower than the other one. That may be what’s going on with OP‘s.

My guess is someone will eventually figure out a way to modify the ride height sensor.

So now I’m a little ticked. Seems that EVSportline has updated the R800s to match factory offset of +48 rather than the +35 I got. ?‍♂

not only this, but I may need a new wheel as my wife hit a curb pretty hard, so now I’d get a mismatched wheel if I order a replacement??

Wow! I wonder when they made the offset change and the reasoning behind it. I was going to order the 800s, but heard to many reports of rubbing. I was then going to order the 1000s with factory offset, but ended up finding a great deal on some OEM 20s. Hopefully EV Sportline can get you another +35 offset so you can match.

It's odd they only list the bronze wheel in the old +35 offset.

Alright finally got warm enough to clean off the grime and take a closer look where the rubbing is going on.

Put suspension in low and tried full lock both ways. No obvious rubbing at a standstill, which is expected. I only would hear it rub with some load on the truck while turning. I did however see a rub mark where I’m guessing the rubbing I happening, and curiously I only see it on the left wheel well (front part). See the photos of both left and right side wheel well.

I also did a rough measurement of the hub to fender and seems to be about 1/4-1/2” lower on the front left side than the front right. I’ve heard of others having imbalanced suspension, so I’ll be asking Rivian SC about this on my visit next week.

Slight update on this. EVSportline reached out and offered to swap out my +35 offset wheels for the newer +48 they’re now selling to hopefully alleviate the rubbing. I got them installed $180 to discount tire..ouch!) and it seems to now not rub in standard height when I do my neighborhood dip test, but the same test done in Low (not lowest) it still rubs. Ugh…So, an improvement but not fully addressed.

Also, my wife hit a curb in December and messed up my alignment pretty bad. Took it in to SC and they checked everything and aligned the truck. Also asked about the ride height adjustment and they said they’d check that too. Seemed like the running actually got worse after they adjusted it. This was on the old wheels when it was initially done in late December.

So now, I’m on a factory wheel size/offset with same as factory AT size tire (though a more aggressive tread), and I still get rubbing at even just Low setting. Gotta be something up with my truck, right?!

Is the problem that the sound annoys you, or that you're concerned contact is going to damage something behind the liners?

If its the former, I recommend turning the left side steering wheel knob up while music is playing until the rubbing is no longer noticeable.

If the latter, and for some consolation, with that light of rubbing nothing's going to get hurt other than some plastic will get polished. If the tires aren't contacting at the 12 o'clock position on the front fenders, you're in the clear.

Source: I'm running BFG K02 285/65R20 +18 offset raceline wheels that rub like crazy, and have actually popped out the plastic fender trim when I go full compression in the desert. Haven't bent the fender metal yet and there's definitely been contact.

It’s the sound mostly, as I’m OCD about sounds in general. But I’m also concerned as I plan to do some trails this summer, though at least I can raise it higher for those.

If I had your setup, I’d expect it and live with it, but I have stock sizes and still rubbing and would just like to figure out why. I used to use kneel mode with my 22s but turned that off with these tires.

It’s likely the extra tread depth of the falkens.
