Has Rivian improved the second row AC on the Gen 2? For people who received and own one already. I know on Gen 1 the middle row was horrendous

also, still loud ac motor during hot weather ?

Gen2 here...no sensible difference on 2nd row.

I believe the AC compressor was moved/replaced for Gen2

My Gen1 second row AC is excellent, sorry to hear about yours.

From what I hear the compressor is still loud. It is now a heat pump so the compressor can work in reverse. They relocated it away from the cabin though which should reduce noise in the cabin when its really hot. We never had an issue with the 2nd row cooling in our R1S though.

The 3rd row however is not AC or heat....that is a recirculation fan only. I wish Rivian would do a better job of explaining that to customers. The 3rd row vents do no good in the winter when you need heating and the cabin has to already been cooled in order for them to help in the hot temps...otherwise they will recirculate hot air.

The issue with the 2nd row is that there are only two vents in the front center console, so when you have 3 people sitting the legs of the center person block the vents for the two outside people. They should have put vents on the b-pillar like there are in the c-pillar for 3rd row.

Got it.... This is easily resolved by directing the outer front dash AC vents so they point along the windows and the air blows past the left of the driver and the right of the passenger. Center only rear vents really no different from many other SUVs and trucks, my Chevy Avalanche is exactly the same.

Ya, it’s not a unique problem, my Tesla is the same issue. We do direct the front ones like you suggested, just takes a while when it’s really hot. I also rarely remember to cool the car down before we get into it, but I’m getting better at it.

In Texas summers - my kids would be sweating back there in full blast
We have days of 100+ degrees. I’ve never had an issue cooling down in 4-8 minutes In direct sun.

3rd row IS AC, but no heater. There is a third evaporator towards the rear off the car, on top of the air compressor.

Where did you learn of this? This hasn't previously been the case. The 3rd row has always been, much to the dismay of many owners, cabin temperature air.

I think you might be confused. What’s always been known is that you can’t add heat, however, AC air is present and is not gen specific.

Matter of fact, if you look at the skate board, you will see lines going to the back of the car.

Here is a post showing the system in place:

Interesting. Up until the most recent software update the 3rd row vents always showed the cabin air temp icon in the climate control display regardless of heat/AC operation.

I looked at the manual and it does say cooled or cabin temp air. After the update the 3rd row vents do show cooled air now instead of the cabin temp air icon.

Thank you for pointing this out ?
