Hey all,
New to these forums…I have both an R1S and a Tesla Model X Plaid on order but have to decide between the two. I’ve gone back and forth several times and it’s a tough choice. I know others say they’re not the same class / not comparable but for me they both would work just fine for my family. We had eventually settled on the Rivian but then read the service center horror stories and it has scared me off.
Others claim it is the same situation with Tesla but I have a Model 3 already and in my experience I never had to wait more than about 3 weeks for a non urgent item. Even a month I can live with, but the 6 month stories have really pushed me towards Tesla more.
So why am I asking here? I’m not here to start a Tesla vs Rivian thing, I don’t care about brand loyalty or anything like that. For owners in the SF Bay Area, what has your experience been?
Have you had to take your R1S in? multiple times? I know with my Model 3 I didn’t need anything for the first 4 years…if Rivian is similar maybe the service wait times right now aren’t relevant.
If you did, how long did you have to wait? Any folks in the East Bay? I’m guessing you go to the South San Francisco SC, is any one a shorter wait than another?
does anyone know of short term plans to improve the situation?
Thanks all!

I own a Tesla Model Y, and it's a great vehicle. I do appreciate Tesla vehicles for what they are. My R1T was in for service, and Enterprise gave me a brand new Model X (not Plaid) as a loaner. I've got to say, the Rivian feels a lot more like a higher-end luxury vehicle than the Model X. There was no comparison. I was very happy to get my R1T back.

thanks for the reply. I agree it does feel a bit more luxury inside, but I actually don’t mind the more simplistic look in the Tesla either. I prefer the Rivian for the versatility of the larger vehicle though, but it does come down to the SC…the last thing I want is a $100k sitting in a SC for weeks/months.
How long did you have to wait to get in the SC? And get your car back?

@TallCoolOne I haven't had any major problems with my R1T. My closest service center is Costa Mesa, one of the more overwhelmed facilities at the moment. They have been slower to complete work than I would expect. However, more service centers are opening all the time. In December, the Eastvale Service Center will open, and it's closer to me. That's going to take a big load off of Costa Mesa, as well. I see you are in the Bay Area, and I don't know what that situation is like.

From what I've seen, the service center will create an opening for emergency (unable or close to unable to drive the vehicle) repairs. For minor work, they are scheduling a ways out at the moment.
