Shipping time estimates from Normal?

I locked down a shop R1S on May 12th and this morning I got a text from the Houston service center that my vehicle would be here shortly (week of 05/29). They asked what day I’d like to come pick it up. I told them to take their time to make sure all panel gaps and anything else is corrected. I gave them 10/30 or 10/31 as pick up dates. Now im frantically trying to wrap up the last two steps.

I'm a 11/21 preorder. How did you get shop access, did they email you randomly or you reached out to them? If you reached out to them, how many days did it take for shop access to get enabled?

They told me 4-6 weeks to El Segundo by train and it was here in a week. I think I was lucky.

Seems like delivery times are all over the board depending on where you live in the country.

Kind of a bummer I could not set up factory delivery, but I am sure Rivian likes to limit that since they would be over run by EV nerds flocking to Normal and overwhelming their local staff.

I reached out to them via phone. The CS rep said he would put in a request for shop access but couldn’t guarantee anything. On day 7 after the request I logged in and noticed I had access. From there I was able to secure one that I liked within a couple days.

My lock date was May 6th, car still not in dallas. So weird!!

My guide said mine would ship via truck not train when I asked a few days back.

Hmmm thanks for all these perspectives also. I got one from shop a couple days ago and it was in Normal. Guide says could arrive at service center by early next week but I'm not that hopeful now. I'm going to take delivery in Austin TX...

5/19: Email notification that car was getting ready to leave Normal
5/22: Guide called and confirmed car was on the way
5/25: Houston service center texted to expect delivery week of 6/12

There is a shortage of rail cars, and I think they may have started using trucks in limited numbers as well. "normal" time to get from Normal to the west coast is about 3 weeks by rail. It seems like its 1 to 3 weeks longer than that now, and it took Rivian about two weeks to find a rail car for our incoming R1S.

On a call yesterday, my guide confirmed shipping from Normal via trucking is something they are doing. Not sure how common it is, but he indicated that it is faster than rail to its destination. Makes sense I guess. I hope mine gets put on a truck! I'd love to take delivery in 2-3 weeks.

Normal to Atlanta, five days, received text from Atlanta service center on 5/23 vehicle is ready for pick up on 5/25 or 5/26, I opted to pick up on Tuesday, 5/30

5/8 - Locked in VIN off the R1S Shop

5/11 - Finally assigned a guide, was told that my truck was "in Normal, preparing for transport" with a 6-8 week delivery estimate (or sooner)

5/18 - Got a text from the El Segundo Service Center letting me know that it was on the way and estimated to be ready for pick-up the week of 6/10
