I apologize in advance if this has been discussed already. So I'm a April 2021 R1T holder and originally had the explorer version and when the emails were sent out this past December it said I would receive my R1T in the first half of 2023 so I changed it to the Adventure Trim in hopes of moving up to this year, but with with production and supply delays its any guess as to when in the next 12-18 months ill get mine.

So knowing my pre-order situation the question is that I have a 2018 Ram 1500 Big horn that is worth about $3k more then what I owe on it and I spend about $100 a week on gas as I use this truck as a daily driver 99% of the time should I trade in for a EV now to take advantage of the equity I have in the truck and then trade in the EV sometime in the next 18 months, I have been looking at the EV6 and can easily get one at msrp fairly quick here where I live or should I wait? As of right now I don't know how long the used car market as it is now will last.

If you don't need the Ram, I would probably consider getting rid of it now for something more efficient. I haven't been in an EV6, but they do look nice. Polestar might be a good option too, but don't know where the polestar spaces are in Texas.

I wouldn't make this decision based on financial predictions about gas and used car prices over the next 18 months. Nobody can predict what's coming there with much confidence, particularly as the amounts of money you're talking about aren't large compared to how much prices have been fluctuating.

Do you want to trade in, or would you prefer to keep your ram? Would you still be able to afford the Rivian if the used car market tanks right before you trade in? Keep in mind that a decline in the used market will impact both the EV and your Ram, perhaps in different magnitudes.

Answer those questions for yourself, and play out the scenarios in your mind, and that'll tell you what to do.

It sounds like you don't need a truck if you are really considering trading it in to get an EV6. If that's the case why not? You'll save a bit on gas and can trade it in for the Rivian whenever your time comes. I'd say your truck is going to hold its value for a while, maybe not down to the dollar but close. I'd only be hesistant if you planned to use your EV6 to be able to afford the Rivian. While trucks traditionally tend to hold their value, I'm not sure anyone knows for sure what the prices of a used EV6 will be in 12-18 months.
