I've never had a vehicle with auto-tilting rear mirrors before. For those of you that have, are you aware of any issues with wearing out the motors or other internal components prematurely? Prior to this update, these motors would obviously run very infrequently and wouldn't need much in regard to cycle testing. I would hope that Rivian either did this cycle testing from day one knowing that this feature would be added later, or did the testing prior to releasing the update. But you never know. It seems like a very useful feature, but not at the expense of a shorter lifespan and not being able to adjust the mirrors when needed. Any thoughts? Am I overthinking this?

My wife’s 2002 VW Passat had this feature. She loved and drove that car for 19 years and never had an issue with the mirrors.

If you have mirrors that fold in when parked, then they are cycling every single time you get in and out of the car already (so at least 4x per trip). I wouldn't worry about it.

My wife’s BMW 2016 X3 has this feature, as well as my BMW 2004 330cic. Still working fine. Anecdotally, the reverse feature may be better for the life of the motor. With disuse, little motors like this can stop working due to grease skinning over, stiffening, etc. The occasional exercise could help to keep it working smoothly.
