Quick update. Went to body shop
Recommended by my friend who he refers a lot of clients to. He wants to charge 1500 to fix the dent. Says he needs to remove tail light and the housing over the bed and then paint the whole panel. My friend said he could talk him down to 500. A mobile PDR company came out and said PDR will be difficult because of the thickness of the body panel
Where the dent is? They then wanted to charge me 1500 for the same thing the other body shop wanted to do. I’m very hesitant to let people who’ve never worked on a Rivian remove any housing or panels. Maybe lm
Being overly cautious. I have two mobile PDRs coming out next week. If they can just fix the dent I can live with the rest.
Keep shopping, those are just your first two quotes. They see Rivian and go ???. The truck still drives, so no rush, right?

Also, try wet sanding the tail light.

Yea. Definitely no rush. I have a service appt next Saturday and I anticipate car will be there for at least a week. Probably longer. Would’ve liked to have it done before that.

Yoire right abkut the dollar signs. Second guy originally quoted 900 and then called back to say he was wrong and it’s 1500. Shady.

Not sure I’d go with either of the guys you’ve looked at so far. Where are you located? I have a great PDR guy I’ve used in the southern Denver/Centennial area. Even if pricing is similar, I’d lean toward the PDR guy in order to keep the factory paint. Good luck!

Actually, the title should be, "Small Quarter Panel Bender"... :CWL:

As other's have said, go with a PDR person. Painting a whole panel, without blending into the surrounding panels, will look like shite - especially with pearl white (rhymes)!

Another update: took it to a third body shop. They said PDR not recommended since the small scratch on the very outer edge may become bigger over time. Oh. He says it’s gonna cost 4-5k. Just gonna do the PDR next Thursday or Friday and deal with and blemishes. Doubt these will be the only scars this car will see.

If they are going to repaint it, I'd probably just rather go through insurance and a Rivian recommended shop.

I don’t think I’m gonna do all that. Just gonna do PDR worh one of the mobile companies I found with good reviews and live with the results. Doubt it will be super noticeable unless youre looking for it.

It’s hard to see the scratch in the pics, but I don’t see anything that can’t be covered with the touch up pen.

Also, some of the better PDR guys do remove panels as well. Here is a thread with a dent almost exactly like yours and the Tech got it completely fixed but had to remove some panels.

$4-$5K to fix that?

Yeah, visions of $$$$$ dancing in their heads once they look up the cost a Rivian.

Here’s a better pic with the scratch circled.

I think you're on the right track...PDR, maybe have the guy sand it smooth if it cracks (like it looks like it has), then use a Rivian touch-up pen. I understand being upset - I certainly would be - but you should get a pretty good result the way you're going...

Be sure to post some pics with the final result...
