It must be an epidemic! This happened to me recently...apparently the rear corners are like magnets for other vehicles.
I noticed walking up to my R1T the other day how much the bumper tucks up under the tailgate (better departure angle and/or just for looks?). It’s a big difference from the average 1/2 ton pickup with a squarish bumper. My theory is that a F-150 might take this damage on the bumper alone.

The worst part of your incident is the rental car you’re going to be stuck with for the next 6-12 weeks. :-(

Fortunately it's drivable while waiting for parts. Hopefully, it'll only be in the shop for a week or so. I will have to relearn how to pump gas! :CWL: You're probably right about the bumper being tucked up tight to the truck limiting protection. Price of design I guess...

I purchased one of these to hopefully prevent straight on "love taps" from behind doing any damage:

BTW...initial estimate is $14k. It rippled further up the fender so PDR not an option. They will replace whole side of bed, paint/blend driver rear door and tailgate. They expect final price to approach $20k.

Whattcha gonna do? Guess it's just life...

Not sure what thread but there was a similar dent on the passenger side that totaled around 41k.

That would be insane! Since there was no speed involved (me parked, other car backing up), I don't expect a lot of hidden damage. So far, it just sounds like replacement of panel (rear to back door), new bumper and stainless trim, and new tail light. Can't imagine a scenario where that totals it but, if so, I'll be buying it totalled and go from there!

PDR is like magic if you hire the right person. I have used it exclusively on my past 5 cars for door dings and other small dents caused by hit an runners.
@AWDrift0 If you're willing to, please share the name(s) of some of the PDR folks you've used in the Bay Area. Thanks!
