It must have improved from 2020 then because the top tier explorer I had was laggy and unusable software wise. The native nav's boot up time was measured in minutes for example.
Sync 4a is very stable and responsive and they are pushing out regular OTA updates. They're not generally as consequential as Rivian's updates but we've been getting them at least every month. There are still a few things that annoy me about the interface and we're missing features like Camp Mode, Dog Mode and Gear Guard/Dash Cam, but I can't say I thought the Rivian interface was superior to Ford's.

I have a 2023 Mach-E and 2022 R1T And I prefer the Rivian interface hands down. When in the Mach-E I use Waze which is better for traffic aware rout planning but doesn't integrate our route to include charging stops. The R1T system boots much faster and is generally snappier as @Donald Stanfield mentioned. I find the Rivians subjectively better looking as well. The Mach-E is far less intuitive as the screen menu's are to many levels deep. The Mach-E phone integration consistently mutes out volume and has way more general glitchiness than Rivian. While I do use AA while driving the Mach-E I don't miss it at all in the Rivian.
On a similar topic the Ford Blue Cruise is far superior to the very basic drive assist Rivian has. Ford is gonna start charging like $800/ year for blue cruise.

This will be my first update...I'm assuming it'll be pushed any time now from what I saw in previous updates.

I’d expect it to start rolling out Monday or Tuesday next week.
That seems late, would surprise me if it does not start deploying this week.

Although with the UI change they may want to get more hours in beta before deploying, will still be surprised if it goes past this week. I would have bet we would have heard it start sometime today but getting late in the day now.

I've been thinking we'd hear about the first wave getting updates today

The first day betas are released (when we see a post on Forums, Facebook or Reddit,) updates tend to follow 14 days later.

I think it will be this week. Either today or tomorrow. Usually roll out time is 6-7pm PT.
