I guess my question has more to do with how the phone connects to the car for WiFi tethering. Is data the transmitted over WiFi or Bluetooth?
Trying to weigh the options when it comes to subscribing to C+. Since the subscription ran out, I’ve been tethering my phone as a hotspot and using the native Rivian audio apps that way.
Through wifi data transmitted, for that reason rivian enable wifi while driving, previously wifi on only when its in park.

There is so much BS and misunderstanding here. People shouldn't assume they know something and then spout off confidently incorrect answers.

Of course you can have better sound quality with a direct, non-BT connection. The version of BT currently in our trucks cannot support lossless, and ATMOS just won't play over it from the Apple Music player, nor from Spotify (I tested this last month, don't really use it, hated the UI and quality).

Yes, there's a BT standard to do this. No, we don't have it. Note that the Apple stuff also has UWB and other tech that isn't in "normal" audio gear, or our vehicles.

If you have wifi tethering where your Rivian gets to the internet via your phone, that's over wifi...obviously. Apple ATMOS/lossless will work because the data is being downloaded to the truck directly, just as with its own modem.

The phone connection is far faster (5G) than the built in connection (LTE) unless you have an old/junk phone.

If you are playing music via your phone's music players, including any apps, that all goes to the truck via Bluetooth. With limits on quality and bandwidth. No ATMOS, no lossless.

Amazon, Youtube music, and the like currently keep their intrinsic low quality whether you use them directly or not. They should all improve this.

Meridian systems probably show a much bigger improvement than the others. I have never heard the non-Meridian. This is just observation from the many user reports.
