Speedometer Stops Working, All Warning Lights Appear

Had this bizarre issue recently pop up with my R1S - when starting a drive after the vehicle has been sitting for some hours during the day (have not observed when starting a drive after sitting overnight), the speedometer stops working after a few minutes and all the warning lights pop up on the driver's display. The display and lights then act erratically for about 5 minutes before everything returns to normal. The driving dynamics and the center screen appear unaffected while the speedometer is acting up.

When acting up, the warning lights flip on and off and the speedometer varies between freezing on a speed (ie displaying 5mph when I'm stopped), displaying hold (H) even when I'm moving, and just displaying blank (--). I've seen a couple mentions of similar behavior online, but if anyone's got additional info on what might be causing this and what the fix is I'd appreciate it. I've filled a service ticket but my local service center is booked out until mid-September, so I'm hoping it doesn't get worse in the meantime.

Same issue here in phoenix , took it to the service center 3 times and still cant get it fixed . Also having issues with level 2 charging in the heat. These cars are freaking out in the heat out here in phoenix. Unfortunately They are pushing out apointment in hope they dont have to deal with this issue until the heat dies down .

I have this same issue all the f*cking time the last 3-4 months. Speedometer doesn’t work. All the lights go crazy.
Not safe to be driving around never knowing what speed you are going.

Service has no idea how to fix and it’s making me want to sell the truck honestly.

Many times I’ve reset it and it’s been into SC twice. Still happens all the time lately

Hmmm, this happened to me the first time last week, I figured it was a big and didn't bother reporting it yet.

After 10 min or so of continued driving the speed came back but fixed at 57mph regardless of actual speed.
Pro tip, engage cruise control and that will tell you your current speed just fine in the interim.

Eventually fixed itself 30+ min later with no resets. I didn't want to pull over for fear of it not starting again.

Ended up getting a bumped up appointment at the service center. They had the car for about a week, I was told they reflashed the firmware for several modules to fix communication failures which were causing errors. While it's only been a few days, everything seems to be working well again.

I was called today by the SC in Costa Mesa. They say they don’t think it’s a hardware problem and their engineers are working on a solution.

This is the 3rd time that I’ve had to bring it in because at least once or twice a day the speedometer just gives up on me.

It’s a safety matter obviously to have a working speedometer and basically Rivian is telling me they have no solution and I’ll have to deal with it.

That isn’t the case in CA. I’ve had the car less than 24 months, have brought it to service 3+ times for the same issue, and they have no ability to fix the issue. That qualifies the truck as a lemon. I’ve made it clear I won’t accept taking back a truck that I can’t use safely.

In CA they have to either replace the vehicle with one alike or better, or buy the truck back with costs (my discretion which option). I’ve told Rivian I like the truck and just want a replacement vehicle that works. They have passed along the request to legal and I am waiting on their response.

They have told me they are working on a software solution and hope to have it ready soon.

I've only had this happen once when i was parked, hard reboot fixed it and I haven't seen it again... yet.

The technician just told us yesterday that this should be fixed with the next update. Hopefully!

Most people come here to whine about stuff... but this is a legitimate safety concern. I would force them to take it in one more time, so it gets recorded that they had 3 times to fix without resolution, then lemon law it. You'll get paid back for the entire time you're payments on it, plus legal fees..
