I have an R1S with only 4k miles on it. Rear tire had to be replaced and ever since that replacement my regenerative braking has been acting strange.

Sometimes when regen braking even when not braking hard, it has a feeling like the vehicle is sporadically going into neutral and eases up on the braking. I keep my regen settings on high. It's also not smooth, so for example if you're going 80mph and just release the throttle, it will give a feeling of little regen until it slows down to 65, then it regens harder , and then around 45mph is completely goes to zero regen for a split second, then at 35 it increases Regen to the expected "high" level. So when traveling in stop and go traffic around 35-50mph I'm constantly getting the feeling during Regen that the vehicle is going into neutral during regent, slipping on ice, hydroplaning, etc. randomly.

It has nothing to do with the charge level, temperature, or going down a steep incline. I have another R1T that doesn't do this in the same environment and it only started after a tire replacement. The tire replacement is only 4,000 miles difference of wear between the other tires.

I'm going to keep testing this by putting in conserve mode, and traction control off and see if either of those stop the strange behavior.

Had anybody only had to replace one tire, or use a spare tire and notice strange regen behavior?

Is it possible that a sensor was damaged?

What type of sensor could be damaged from a tire replacement. You think a TPMS could be a possible culprit?

ABS sensor. The wires could get damaged from a careless tire change, especially if they were routed incorrectly from the factory.

If the tire wasn't changed by Rivian, I'd also be wondering if they might've put the wrong size on and the truck is just reacting to the difference in sensed speed strangely.

Thanks. I just checked the connection and it would be near impossible to damage it from taking the wheel off since it is behind the wheel hub. I was also the one that removed the wheel.

That's what I was thinking about the wrong size and the truck is reacting to it but I checked and the tire is 32.9" diameter and when I looked up OEM tires it says the same size.

Update on this. I spoke to the service center and they've seen issues with regen if there's a tire that's not exactly the same as the others. They said if the rotational mass is different than the other tires then it affects the wheel speed sensor.

I bought a tire from the service center and replaced the different tire and that fixed the issue.

So this leaves me to believe that using the compact spare will also cause these regen issues since the tire doesn't match the others.
