I just started using the Spotify app in my gen2 R1S. But now, when I use that Spotify account on other devices, they randomly pause. Sometimes, if I click on devices quickly enough, I see “r1s” listed.
Rivian R1T R1S Spotify on Rivian interrupting Spotify on other devices? IMG_2959

Wondering if the car wakes up on its own periodically, waking up Spotify, which takes ownership of the account.

Has anyone experienced this?

I can restart playback on the other device by pressing play again. But it’s a little annoying.

Yes I have seen this same thing. I am on the free account, so YMMV but free Spotify allows you one single stream, and it's shared (including play controls) across all your devices. If someone else is driving your car and you try to use Spotify you will fight for control over the steam source, play/pause, etc.

Wife and I fought this battle when I first got the Rivian. Had Spotify on my account in the living room, then had it in the truck as well. Two things solved it. First, she got her own account and we moved to the family plan. THEN, I put the truck on it's own account as well. Now the whole family shares playlists to the trucks account instead of borking up my accounts settings.

This is normal operation for a single Spotify account. You get one stream. It's less than robust but I think this is a Spotify issue, not Rivian's fault. I have had repeated occasions where I was listening to a podcast in the Rivian, switched to my iPhone, my wife takes the Rivian, and it reverts back to the Rivian playing the audio but full play control is still on my iPhone. The first time it happened I was messing with it. When my wife got back home, she said the Rivian radio was messed up because it kept switching between podcasts and songs, lol.

I generally don't have the stream snatched away, but will find it locked on the truck via the phone and will tell it to disconnect the R1S and play on the phone. Usually happens at the gym when I drive over, get inside, and the Spotify player in the phone is indicating R1S. I don't think the phone is paired via Bluetooth for media anymore, I am streaming Spotify in the R1S via the native app.

I think people are missing the fact that youre saying that this happening while you aren’t even using the vehicle. That isn‘t normal.

Certainly possible that the truck is waking up and taking over for some reason. I can’t say I’ve noticed similar behavior.

Easiest resolution is to give the Rivian its own Spotify account. But unless you already have a family account, it won’t be very cost effective.

Yes, that's right, it happens while it's parked, maybe every hour or so. I understand the one stream model, but I don't think the vehicle should be taking it while parked, locked, and not in use.

I use Spotify on various devices, phone, tablet, sometimes browser. With those, Spotify only switches the stream when I press play.

I usually leave it connected to a charger, on a schedule so it charges when our solar panels are producing. So it wakes up to give updates to the app. Maybe that's related? I will experiment and see if it happens when it's not on the charger. I can also verify if pausing/stopping/exiting Spotify in the Rivian helps, but I think it doesn't.

Good suggestion about family account, we do have one. But it's nice to have my own account everywhere.

Not exclusive to current OTA. Have seen it occasionally in the past, if attempting to listen on other devices and last use was in the car. I think it’s just nature of Spotify platform and how it treats handoff between devices on same account, and that it doesn’t always do it automatically and seamlessly. Simple enough to select correct device.

I agree that this is a Spotify thing, not a Rivian specific thing. I've had spotify premium now for 10+ years and have had the same thing happen before I had the Rivian. It just seems to be the nature of the Spotify platform and how it hands off access from one device to the others.

I suspect your truck is not just waking up, but unlocking because it thinks you walked up to it.

If you disable the proximity unlock does it still happen?

This is a good theory! But I think I have it disabled or at least disabled at home.
