WD40 does contain some lubricants, but it will thin and displace the grease that's in there pretty quickly (and yes - though it's WaterDisplacer-40, it's great at thinning grease too). So even though it may fix things today, it will almost certainly result in the problem coming back quicker and quicker.It might not be the best option (maybe silicone spray is better), but you’re being over dramatic. WD40 is in fact a lubricant and it’s really unlikely to damage anything in this kind of application (to stop noisy door handles). There’s likely no need to run out and start replacing door handles because they squeak
You can add me to the list of folks who's got a creaking gen2 door handle - the front handles are just as smooth as they were on day1 - but now both of our rear doors are creaking when opening and feeling a little crunchy.
I can't see the grease back there (on the rear handles) - but can on our fronts, so suspect they just need repacked. Whoever designed these things needs a good talking too about material selection...
