Considering trading in my R1S LE (22" Dark, LE Green, Blk Mtn, 1750 mi) for a R1T - what do you think Rivian would give me for trade in?
From my experience and one other person on Reddit, 73k-76k if they were to take it today. Obviously the more time that goes on, the less you would get.

IMO, if you don't get a trade in sales tax credit, you will get more 'value' from Cars and Bids or Bring a Trailer looking at their latest R1S sales price.

Congrats! Try driving the S on 5 southbound between 90 and west seattle exit. The porpoising is bad compared to the T. Was surprised how much tighter turning radius the S has
I’ve noticed it to be particularly bad in that stretch as well. Never noticed it in my XC90, but I‘ve been looking at other cars and they also “bounce’. Our roads are so bad in WA.

Thanks @Aroohoo, yes probably makes sense to sell vs trade in based on that.

$75k is very fair. Very generous for preMarch order.

I also switched from a T after 7000 miles to an S (now with 5000 miles). There is a small subtle difference in ride quality where the longer wheelbase T wins. That being said, I went from 20" wheels on the T to 21" wheels on the S and that made a HUGE difference in comfort and ride. (to a point that I would have sworn the S rode far better). The 21" tires also hook up a lot harder and make the 21" wheels a faster option. Apparently throttle mapping is adjusted to potential grip and the AT tires just spin more easily. My neighbor bought a used T with the same 21" wheels and asked me to go through it. When I drove that I can confirm the longer wheelbase always wins for comfort. As far as porpoising goes, it is more evident in the shorter wheel base vehicle but predominantly when you completely stand on it.
I summary, the tires seem to make more of a difference than the wheelbase and the S is still extremely comfortable to a point where I'm not switching back. I do miss the open bed though.

I have a R1S and have had a loaner a R1T from Rivian on and off for two weeks while we fixed some issues with the S. I can say the T is a smoother ride and slightly more enjoyable to drive but the S is a better size over all and seems to be more nimble. I have found the fit and finish to be excellent on both models and really can not fault either truck. If I HAD to pick just one.... it would be the R1T but I love my R1S so it a win win!

I'm on my second T. (First one was totaled by a drunk driver hitting us. I've documented that in other thread a few months ago.)

My first T was a 3k VIN. The new one is 24k. I loved the OG truck and I'm so thankful for how it protected us when we crashed. But as far as quality the new truck is far better. Almost no wind noise at all on this one. The roof glass is perfectly square as it should be. I hear a small amount from the triangle driver piece over 80 but it's far less than the OG truck. And about on par with my wife's car. The Rivian speakers are far better than the meridian ones too. Especially once you move the settings around and get the bass right. Those are the big ones for me as moving from T to T. They are definitely getting much better with the quality of the builds.

Given your location and the fact you've got a low mile R1S, I'd say your best and most advantageous option would be to sell it private party. eBay, Cars and bids, Bringatrailer, myev.com will likely net you somewhere above 85.

edit: saw someone else said the same.

Agree that my 2 test drives with the T were nothing like my now S which definitely is a porpoise. I test drove 20's and 21's in the T and bought the S with 20's. Everyone is hoping that it can be fixed with software but I think it's a short wheelbase issue.
The porpoising thing sounds like it is specific to the all terrain tires. I have the 21s and have felt non of this. My R1T is also on 21s and I have had zero handling issues other than the obnoxious turning radius on the T.

I went from older R1T to newer R1T and this solved the missing under dash 12v for me. I just need usb power for my left-side dash phone mount, so the ODB port location is also better.

Traded my R1T 21" Road for an R1S with 22" Sport from Rivian for 74K in June. 3K miles later I miss the ride variables with the T. My S porpoises regardless of the ride setting. While the turning radius is better on the S the overall feel is much more sensitive to road imperfections than the T. I think the shorter wheelbase makes such a difference........ Am going to test drive another S with smaller wheels and tires to feel the difference.

The cabin heat buildup with full sun in both the T and now the S is noticeable. While I'm using the Heat Shield am hoping for a more aesthetically appealing and efficient option soon.

The Rivian Adventure Network charging stations in VA are awesome and still free to use as of this date. FYI Rivian. Google Maps refers to RAN as WayPoint chargers. I suggested edits to G.

I'm going to downsize the wheels in the near future. Anyone looking for 22" Sport black hit me up.

I just traded my T for an S 2 weeks ago....

Gear tunnel = yep missing it
12v plugs = didn't use them in the T so don't miss them on the S
No wood trim on the back seats = suck for the passenger, but I am the driver, so no concerns. :)
Rivian sounds system = I prefer the Rivian sound system to the Meridian system in the T
Wind noise = S is far better than the T. My T had a roof panel on the passenger side that made a lot of noise. S is deadly silent in comparison.
Front truck heat = I haven't opened the front truck hood yet. Never used it much on the T.
Build quality = light years better. I picked up my T 13 months ago and the S is soooo much better.
Compressor noise = much quieter on the S compared to the T
Ride quality = the porpoising on my T was far worse than the S. I drive in All Purpose mode most of the time. The S feels more sporty and the turning radius shines compared the T. I had 21's and 20's on the T and 20's on the S. 21's felt great and handled awesome, but were a little harsh when it came to ride quality. 20's were a lot smoother, softer, but did not handle as well on the corners. Same feeling between the T and the S with regards to 20's.
Proximity lock = no better or worse than the T for me.

Other things:

Cabin heat = hot days in the S sucked until I added ceramic tint (everything but the windshield). Had the same issue with the T.
Panel gaps = S wins hands down. T was assembled by a drunk person.
Fit and finish = S wins again. Everything inside has been refined over the last year. Quality of the materials is far better.
Software = Again the S wins. My T originally came with 21's. I switched to 20's and had Rivian reprogram the truck for 20's. The T would say 347 miles of range on Conserve at 100% SOC. It would only deliver about 275 miles of range. So far the S is much more accurate. Shows 303 range in Conserve at 100% SOC and delivers very close to that range.

I was a bit concerned with swapping out the T for the S because I REALLY enjoyed driving the T for the last year. Two weeks into ownership of the S and I am very glad I traded up to the S.
Thanks for the thorough breakdown of your experience. Sold my T after 17 months and getting the S this week! A few additional questions if you don’t mind.
Do you have cross bars on? Are they noisy?
How about overall cabin/road noise compared? Air suspension noises, road, bumps, etc.
Do you think ceramic pano tint is good enough for you or you’ll still need to use a sunshade for the ceiling?

Talk to me Goose...

Where are you at in CA? I am contemplating the opposite swap. ;-)

We have the same color combo, just different wheels. You can keep yours.

Cross bars - I have not installed them yet.

Cabin road noise - It's definitely louder than the T and by a good amount. Not obnoxiously loud, but noticeably louder. Road noise from the tires is what I notice the most. On smooth roads is dead silent inside. On rough roads it's much louder. IMO this happens from the AT tires on rough roads. The volume wheel on the stereo needs a few clicks up on the freeways in CA.

Ceramic tint - So far so good. It's been in the mid-90's in CA lately and the A/C keeps up with the cabin heat just fine. It does take some time to cool down the interior when you first get in. I have found that if the middle and rear A/C vents are on the front vents take a hit in cooling performance. So I typically set the temp to LO and fans to HIGH and turn off the middle and rear A/C. I think add a sunshade would make it much better, but I just don't like the way they look.

Thanks for the response and thorough explanation. This is very helpful albeit too late since the S is coming s00n. The T’s road and cabin noise was bad enough so I’m nervous about the S especially since I’ll be running a roof top tent. First world problems I guess. Thanks again.
