Don't these solutions require access to a phone to contact another party?
No. A device sure, not just a phone.

I'm glad I don't live in such a state of worry and fear.

We go off-roading in the desert, high desert, or mountains where there is no cell service pretty frequently. Given that, I simply don't see how your solution helps.

We bought an R1S to replace our high-mileage Land Rover so we could continue seeing cool sights in remote places. It's neither worry nor fear but rather preparedness which is my focus. Getting stuck in a remote area with no cell service can turn a fun expedition into something with consequences.

I guess I don't understand how you turned using an adventure vehicle to go out and adventure into, "...living in a state of worry and fear." Given your response should we avoid the adventure, ignore the risk and hope for the best, or are you suggesting something I'm missing? I'm truly curious about what you mean.

If I’m adventuring my kit is very different from day to day usage. The latter was the context of this thread. That said, a friend did have his Hummer opened remotely in the middle of nowhere once, which was surprising. For being in the middle of nowhere, I have a satellite communicator, ham radio, and an extra key/fob. Different potential problem.

We have a thorough off-road kit for adventure, too, which stays in our garage under normal circumstances. Unless GM changed something recently, I don’t see how they opened your friend‘s Hummer in a location remote enough to lack cell service.

I still don‘t see how anyone could equate keeping an extra card in a wallet under any circumstances to, "...living in a state of worry and fear." I was curious about how you got there and I guess I’ll stay curious.

To be fair, the only time I took it out of my wallet to use it was when I went to get my tires rotated and realized I forgot to bring a fob with me. I didn’t want to hand over my phone and I didn’t want to waste 30 minutes driving home and back so I gave them the card and it worked out fine.

I’ve had my R1T since September 23 and have used my PAAK exclusively with no problems. But I am slightly paranoid and do keep the card in my wallet

What kind of phone do you have?

Could Rivian customer support remotely open the door, after you verify your identify of course? Not sure that helps you start up the car or not.
I work in Tech and I had the card in my wallet on day 1. So many things can happen physically or mentally to the phone or app.

I have an iPhone 15 pro max.. I always keep my stuff up to date.

perhaps it was naive of me, I didn't research more but I just assumed once the phone was paired to the Truck, all communication was handled via encrypted Bluetooth. just like you would pair any other peripheral to you phone.

As long as the phone had power, Bluetooth was enabled and Vehicle was within proximity it would negotiate and grant access.

I have had instances where I have lost cloud connection to my vehicle, but being within blue tooth radio range was sufficient to communicate with the Truck and get feedback/give commands.

I didn't think that it would get "corrupted" like this so easily.

It was definitely an Oh crap moment for me.

I must be old school. I just carry the fob with me and I've never had any issues.

Stupid question: "So having both your phone and the Keycard with you won't interfere with access to the car?".I dont have the R1T yet.....so that is why I ask.
Phone and keycard seem to present to different sensors on/in the Rivian.

If they present to different sensors, they shouldn't cancel each other out.

I haven't tested this carefully, but I haven't noticed conflict when my wife and I both have phones in/near the car.

So I'm not worried. If I should be worried, somebody please tell @Kidentist and me -- thanks!
