Good evening everyone...

I took delivery of my R1T yesterday and have been enjoying it tremendously. I have not driven much, as I wanted to wait till i got my PPF / ceramic coat / tint but have driven around the neighborhood.

Today i went to get in and noticed my first nick... a nick on the bottom edge of the drivers door. Barely noticeable, but there... I am going to get my car done Wednesday but was hoping i would not find any nicks or scratches that i felt they would not be able to buff out. This is one of them..

All i can say is oh well... the first is the hardest, but nicks are bound to happen no matter how careful you are. I could likely ask Rivian to fix it, but then i run the risk of it not matching. Due to the location, i am guessing it was there upon delivery as i believe you could only get it there when the handles are out.

Does anyone know if there is touch up paint yet?

so just my opinion but it aint a truck until it looks like this

Yes it is. I actually dinged my Model S the first 2 hours i had it. pulled it into my garage and opened the truck... garage door was open and i learned the hard way that the trunk opens all the way to the garage door. Hit a hinge on the garage door and nicked it. Not too bad, but worse than what is on my Rivian.

I was bummed for a second when i found the nick today but am over it. It will get way worse once i start to really drive it to work. I drive 40 miles each way, so......

I feel you and sometimes it's good to get it out of the way early. Two anecdotes:

Buying my first brand new dirtbike, I dropped it in the bed of the truck while loading it at the dealership. I had only ridden the bike across the parking lot. I knew there were many more drops in that bike's future, but it still was a sad (though laughable) moment.

Rolled into my parents driveway with my first brand new car. My mom comes out of the house and in her excitement, swings the driver's door right into the retaining wall along their driveway. Took a pea sized fleck of paint right off the lower edge of the door frame. I had about 15 miles on the car. She was more upset than I was, though it did sting a little.

in all truth, it may even be too small for touch up paint. Hopefully the paint correction i am having done before my PPF and ceramic coat will minimize it to where i will not even notice it.

Remember....you WON THE RIVIAN LOTTERY...even if you scratch your truck on a daily....still winning.

I can't even see anything in the photo. Just enjoy the truck and don't worry about it. There will be lots more nicks and scratches even with PPF.

I asked that of my guide and she had never heard of it, so I asked her to check!

We did PPF on and babied our Tesla. I washed and waxed religiously and when we sold it it shined better than new. Initially we planned to do the same with the Rivian, and I had scheduled the $1800 PPF application prior to taking delivery.

When we decided to not sell the truck for $150k and double our money it broke a mental barrier for our household and we realized that this truck is part of our family and is going to tell a story (in the corny Subaru ad kinda way). We decided to enjoy the adventure and lean into the scuffs and scrapes to forgo PPF and just enjoy it.

It took us a couple of days, but now that we have made the mental adjustment it is truly liberating not worrying about paint condition. The sides of the truck bed and bed itself are already taking some abuse from our gardening projects, so in practice, I'm glad we didn't do PPF on the front only to scratch up the sides instead.

To each their own, but just consider your use cases.
