Chill people, Rivian needs all the customers it can get. Even the ones who expect instant gratification.
Some customers need to readjust their expectations. Nothing wrong with wanting something exactly how you want it immediately, but they need to understand its a process.

Agreed. I love Rivian, but the instant gratification folks are not going to have a good time.

Rivian isn’t so desperate that it needs to take anyone. If you think they are in that bad of shape, then maybe it’s you who needs to “chill”. Anyone signing up for this needs know exactly what they signed themselves up for and accept all consequences. If they haven’t figured out what exactly they signed up for, now they learn… and take it like a grown up. It’s just a car, FFS. Not life changing wonder drug. Don’t get so wrapped up that perspective is lost.

Order a Porsche and is 5-6 months with literally 1 of those moths it’s sitting on a ship at sea.

August is still a week away and there’s about 9 until the end of September. Once you get a vin it’s scheduled for production…things will start happening fast.

Communication was better than what I got when I ordered my Mach E and heard crickets until it was ready for delivery 4 months later. That’s kind of what you should expect when you order a vehicle from any manufacturer.
Same with our 2023 Bolt -- six or eight months, I think. I assumed the Chevy dealer had forgotten us. Then I got the call asking how soon I could drive to the other end of the state to pick it up....

We're very happy with the 2023 Bolt -- and with both Rivians. Hope you love it when it arrives, @colo1s!

How are you all keeping your cool? I ordered my R1S on June 6. Not a word since beside the reservation confirmation. Sales Rep can't say anything either. Delivery schedule is August - September, how are there no updates to manage expectations? Already seeing similar configs in the shop, which makes it even worse - they're building for the shop but not the custom orders? It would be awesome to get updates about when your car is scheduled to be built etc.
Only a month and a half?

/me laughs in early preorder of multiple EVs.

Edit: My EV waits:

(Yes, I had a Mach-E preorder, then cancelled it when it became clear it wasn't actually an SUV capable of towing; then later bought one off dealer lot to replace our non-towing vehicle when it was clear our Rivian was coming soon. Also yes, I had preorders for all three EV pickups at the same time. The R2 preorder is really "hold my place for an R3".)

Nop, just wondering how you're all dealing with the anxiety and the wait when there's no word from the company about something you paid for. There should be better communication on their part.
You could burn a lot of your wait digging through the archives of this forum... like, 2020-2023 should provide plenty of fodder.

To summarize, though, I think we (respect to those who waited longer than my 2.?? years) spent our time doing the following:

1. Making major career changes
2. Buying accessories
3. Having children
4. Surviving a pandemic
5. Moving homes
6. Remodeling parts of our homes to make a welcoming environment for our R1s
7. Buying more accessories
8. Starting podcasts/blogs
9. Building accessories to sell to other owners
10. Buying accessories
11. Researching, arguing, and commiserating on this forum

Edit: misspelled "fodder"

Ah, I remember the days when the first response would have been "what year?"

The Shop gets vehicles for all sorts of reasons. Maybe someone ordered it and backed out. maybe it was part of a run through the build process, all sorts of stuff. Your specific vehicle is being built just have to be patient, it will arrive and you will love it.

I did a custom BMW build, waited 4 months with nothing then all of sudden 'your car is being built' then waited another 2-3 weeks for delivery from the plant.

How was the communication from Rivian? Did you expect to wait for years or check every day for an update? I don't expect sympathy, just wondering why they suck so much at this part. You have a reservation, there must be a schedule/queue and production targets for every day, why not be transparent about it.
I feel your pain. I typically factory order, and have for about 20 years, that works out to about 8 vehicles. In every single order the communication has been non existent. Acura, Jeep, Lincoln, and MB, all terrible. It typically flows like this:
Order - Pay Deposit
Estimated Delivery - Date
Silence
Anxiety
Delivery

When I decided on a R1S, it was different because I went through the shop. Different, not painless, but much quicker and got exactly what I wanted.

My factory orders were typically 6 to 8 weeks for reference, my last order was about 7 months!

My man...I waited from July of 2021 to Sept of 2023. You'll be FINE.

I placed my deposit November 2019 and took delivery April 2023. They only started delivering in 2022 and have been ramping up their production factory capabilities. It certainly shouldn’t take as long as us original reservation holders, but you need to give it a minute.

But yes, they could improve their communication path for all owners. But they haven’t forgotten about you.

When you've been waiting 2yrs, we can talk :
Lol - do you really expect people to sympathize when most of us waited years for our vehicles? Also August in Rivian language means 8/31 - definitely not one week prior to August.
Precisely! April 2019 > May 2022. I'm here to eat popcorn granola and watch the comments of young, s00n-to-be Rivian owners.
