Does anyone have a direct contact to Rivian's Title & Registration team? Or Chase's?

I leased an R1T at the end of May and received temp tags that expired in mid-August.

A few weeks before they expired, Rivian reached out and said there was a "paperwork issue" (on Chase's end) but that it had all been cleaned up but lined up a rental just in case.

Fast forward - Rivian now claims there is nothing more they can do and "hopes the plates will be received by mid-October." Rivian refused to send me a new temporary tag.

The DMV confirmed that nothing has been submitted to them for processing.

I'm paying R1T prices for a dirt cheap enterprise rental and hate staring at an expensive decoration in my driveway.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

My R1T temp tags also expired prior to receiving my plates. I’m not sure how the police are in your area but I’ve spent a couple months driving on expired temp plates over the years and never once had a problem across several states. I’d lean towards continuing to drive your Rivian anyway.

I really wish Rivian would just provide you with a Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin like every other new vehicle purchase and just let you deal with the title and registration. "Our purchase process isn't like any other company's process" isn't the flex that they think it is.

Try [email protected] and use a subject of "Title and Reg (XX)" where XX is your 2 letter state abbreviation.

Running into the same issue. Expired temp plates as of last weekend. The support team told me that they raised a case with the title and registration team at "the highest priority". Three days later, no response whatsoever. So I called again, they said oops, sorry nobody got bak to you. They can't even tell me if the plates have been ordered or are in process. In the last week they have pushed off the tonneau cover installation, failed to communicate on the license plates, and then sent me a notice stating that I am half way through my Connect+ trial. Great at asking for money, not so great at delivering?

WA State is many months behind in producing truck lic plates. Stop by any lic agency with your registration and they should give you a 60 day extension. I'm on my second extension.

In my county, when you walk into the Auditor's office, you get your plates (auto or truck) the same day. I'm not aware of any delays on this, but I haven't applied for new plates since late June 2024.

When we bought the R1S in Portland, Rivian used a contract licensing agency (which they picked) in the Seattle area. The process took about 3-6 weeks as I recall.

When we bought the R1T in Gaithersburg, we insisted on the "self-registration option." It took about three weeks to get the needed paperwork, but we eventually got it and registered the R1T directly at the county Auditor's Office.

In rural Washington, government agencies are generally pretty efficient. Everyone is neighbor to everyone else, and we all generally treat each other accordingly. My experience with public and private licensing agencies in Thurston County was also very good, when I lived there.

If all else fails, you can get a three-day "trip permit" in Washington State for about $30.00. That will let you drive it legally for anything urgent. If the delay was under Rivian's control, they owe you something....

Good luck, @kirklander and others!

They do if you ask for it, I've done it twice.

But this is a lease, you don't own it, so they won't give it to you.

My wife's National Park plates are months and months delayed, she's gone back twice for new temp tags.

OP, the issue is likely finger pointing between their team and the lease team, so be proactive and go to your local registration/titling office to request a new temp tag.

If you want anything other than normal tags, there's a delay.

I recently found out that Portland Service Center (which appears to be one of the best-managed SCs in the country) has assigned two of their best Guides to the "Title and Registration" function, and has received State approval to do additional title and registration functions as an Oregon business.

One employee told me that there are no longer any Rivian-related title and registration delays at that center. Only State-related delays, because something about Oregon....

Because of Pacific County's location, Portland is our closest Service Center. I don't want to spoil our good thing by making Portland/Tualatin too busy, but some of this forum's other Washington members might choose to bring their business southward....

You should not be in a rental. They should send you another temp tag until the registration is processed.
I made this specific request on multiple occasions and was told that it was not an option.

The runaround continues with all parties (Rivian, Chase, DMV, etc.) blaming someone else.

My experience exactly. I have called customer service directly and get sympathetic reps but no one who can do anything - like overnight me temp tags.

Rivian also canceled by tonneau cover install without rescheduling - guess they knew I couldn't drive the truck to a service center.

What’s the penalty for driving on a temp tag?

Its a couple hundred dollars if you get caught - within 30 days its an "expired registration" but over 30 days is "unregistered vehicle" and I fall into the that category.

The big question mark is on insurance - I have received conflicting answers on whether my insurance will cover me if I'm driving an "unregistered" vehicle and get in an accident.

The insurance is a big one. This needs to be escalated. No reason this should be going on for over 90 days. Tags, title, etc. shouldn't take more than 45 days to process...60 max.
