My Gen 2 R1T 2025's automatic tonneau cover is jammed. I'm wondering (a) how many others this has happened to and (b) has anyone tried fixing it themselves? Service said they had to replace the whole thing. I'm curious what the guts look like and why it's not designed to be repairable. I tried the 3 quick push and then 1 long push of the button: it made it worse. The issue isn't that the motor stopped. It's crooked and jammed. I've tried to keep it clean. --- Besides some silicon spray and regular cleaning of tree debris, etc ... what else are people doing to keep it working?? Cheers all!

It's serviceable but there's no point because of the high failure rate, they just swap it out for the improved design.

Trust the process, you'll be far happier with the Version 2.

Edit
Here is what the one you have looks like internally. The Version 2 is a roll up style that eliminates the decoupling/syncing issues of the current design.

Well, I mine stop working. It is V2 I think. It is new 2025 and picked up in March. I have an appointment with SC but it is in June and wait is over month. Wish they put emergency disengaging sys to manually able to open or close. How do you think?

Only want to clarify that there's a V1.5, which has sync'd motors on both sides. I believe all early (pre-V2) Gen2 trucks have the 1.5 vs the single motor 1.0.

The V2 is superior in that it rolls and doesn't have the inherent limitations, and the V1.0 had a failure rate of ... a lot.

I hope folks get the proper V2 installed when their V1.x fail. I'm on my 3rd tonneau and they got my hopes up that it would be a proper V2, but it's just a replacement for my V1.5 that was borked from day 1.

Good times in Tonneau Land.

Service will likely require you to remove that aftermarket rack, or charge you labor on it.

My 2025 gen2, which I picked up in December, had this exact problem already. Service replaced the entire unit as part of a mobile service visit. I will say, they pretty much take the entire bed apart along with the area behind the rear seats. I was quite shocked when I saw how involved the process was.

They did not replace it with a v2 (rollup style)

I am so glad I don't have one at this point. I had really wanted one at first. Then I got the WeatherTech folding one and was pretty happy. I sold it and got a manual one (Interrobang) and planned to use it with my topper. I can only imagine if I had an issue with the PTC and then would have to take the topper off so they could service the PTC.

At this point I will be a hard pass on the PTC at least until the Gen 3 trucks. Maybe by then it will be PTC v 6.0 and hopefully have it figured out. At this point there is no way I'd go with a PTC and would either do a manual one or something like the WeatherTech one.

At this point is fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice and I'm officially a fool.
