I use the equalizer E2 for my travel trailer. I probably don't need it at 5,000 lbs but anything over that should have weight distribution. I'm easily over 5,000 is I have water in the tanks.

One of the things WD does is to help transfer some of that weight to the front axle... that's important since that's where your steering control is.

R1S has lower tow rating due to shorter wheel base.

I can measure tongue weight with a bathroom scale if I want to know what it is. With a boat trailer the ability to adjust weight distribution is quite limited anyway making the weigh safe cost/benefit even lower.
I don't think my bathroom scale goes up to 600-700 lbs that the tongue weight of my camper registers at. But I suppose I shouldn't make an assumption that yours doesn't.

I’d hope no bathroom scales do but with the size of some people who knows.

Some double axle trailers may not have as high a tongue weight. I found the receiver to be thicker than most class 3? receivers. I'm guessing it's thicker since it has a bigger capacity. I had to look through my stuff for a longer pin. I use a 10k pintle anyway because it was the right drop. I wouldn't want a wdh on a boat ramp.

Hey All. First post!
Have been looking at the Weigh Safe hitch and am wondering on the drop length. From those that have them, what did you go with? Just got the truck and will be (eventually) towing different trailers, from teardrops to U-hauls. Want the most flexibility, but not overkill. Was thinking the 6”? Anybody find it fits too close to the truck?
Thanks!

I got the 6" aero hitch and it's worked well for a variety of trailers. It does sit pretty close to the truck but I have yet to have an issue with interference or anything like that.

If I had to do it again I might go with the standard weigh-safe instead of the aero. The ball on the base model is replaceable, while the aero has a permanently mounted 2" ball. There have been a couple of occasions where I needed to tow a small trailer with a 1.75" cup and needed to borrow a different hitch.

if the tongue weight was appropriate when the boat was fitted to the trailer, then it will still be appropriate 50 years late
I get what you are saying & agree, but…

50 years? You are going to be replacing a lot maybe all of the boat over 50 years. Weights change and shift.

Also I know we have high hopes for the durability and longevity of our R1, but it is not that likely to be your tow vehicle in 50 years…

Go with a decade and you have my agreement (for whatever that is worth)

I'm tempted by the aero as well. Were you able to test it as a rise instead of a drop? I thought I saw someone say that clashed but can't track it down. Thanks!

Sorry for the long delay but I finally tested this and you cannot use it in a rise position because it hits the bumper.

Thank you! You still beat me to an answer even though I already bought it and haven't tested it. Prime Day sale was too good to pass up.
Was disappointed by how inaccurate it is at low tongue weight but I'll just have to stand on the tongue and do some math for light loads.
