Trail recommendations in Orange County, CA?

Does anyone have any trail recommendations in OC? Complete newbie here and will going with the wife, 2 boys, and dog. Would like something scenic to a place we can explore a little when we get there. I have an R1T QM with 21” tires.

Maple springs rd up to Santiago peak, it’s tame (I’ve seen Subarus up there) but gets you cool views.
I haven’t done it in the Rivian though, only by bike!

Second maple springs! Great road for a beginner. If main divide finally opened up, you can link from maple springs to the 74 highway.
Super straightforward drive but probably some of the best views (in my opinion) of any off-roading trail.

Agreed on Santiago. Go slow. Bring your spare wheel just in case. It was my first time going up and didn't have any real issues. Lots of activity on the trail.

I was looking at that trail too, however, from watching youtube videos I noticed it gets overgrown with vegetation in places. Makes me worry about scathing up paint.
Hope its not as bad as it looks.

How long did it take you?

About half a day, but we hung out at the top for a little while. And getting there and back can take a little while depending on where you are coming from. Single lane, tight roads getting there.

How tight is the trail itself? My main concern is if someone is coming the other direction, what do you do? back up to a wider part to let them by? The videos I've seen, it doesn't even look like it's necessary to air down, is that correct?

I just looked at Google Maps, and it's telling me to take Ortega Hwy to El Cariso, then to Main Divide (which looks to be paved most of the way up, turning into dirt eventually).

i haven’t yet. Since this will be my first off roading adventure I’m prob going to go alone first and next time bring the kids. If anyone here wants to try this together I’m down for that.

I might give it a go Thursday, have the week off. Trying to decide whether to take Maple Springs from the NW or Main Divide from the east.
