How many cupholders does the Plaid have again?? It has four, exactly the number it should have. The entire European automotive industry has a blatant and fierce disdain for cupholders and those that use them, and they are doing just fine. They intentionally design the few they do provide to make them as hard to find and least functional as possible.
I'm no expert, but I think your "disdain" is being misplaced. They don't have a disdain for cupholders, they have a disdain for automatic transmissions. One of the main reasons the European car market might have a disdain for cupholders is actually because there is a stigma around driving automatic cars. It is impossible to drink while driving manual. There is little need for cupholders in a manual car. While driving a manual in a European city, you don't have a free hand to sip on your $25 Rivian branded tumblr. It is frowned upon to be a car enthusiast and drive an automatic in Europe and most parts of the world.
That is not the case in America. The American market is 96% automatic. There is no stigma. And for fun, I'd also like to add that Rivian is an adventure brand. And guess what, you need to hydrate while adventuring....whether that's to REI sipping on $8 starbucks or to the mountains for a hike. Hydration is necessary. Lol.

This will be the last post on cupholder-gate, but you make no sense. The transmission has nothing to do with cupholders. If you have a drink in an unsealed cup, it needs a place to be stored securely. The only difference is that in a manual, you have to wait until you are at a stop or cruising on the highway to drink it. Even if your thesis were correct, the US market is big enough that if it mattered, they would have US designs to prioritize cupholders in automatic cars.

Rivian has four cupholders, one for every occupant. And hydrating while adventuring means you're using a vessel that won't even fit in cupholders anyway. It's a Nalgene or other type that is going to hang from the hook on the back of the headrest (Ford doesn't have this option) or anywhere you want because it's sealed and doesn't need a cupholder.

right they are 240v capable, but do not have the connection for it (14-50 plug) and you have to buy it from the Tesla store if you want it.
Mine came with two. Regular 120v and 14-50. We still bought the adapter kit for convenience.

Do you need me to measure anything? I only have a Precision XL large folding dog crate which won't even fit in the cab
That is my concern. How much do you miss it by? Your Precision crate is about 6 inches longer and 3 inches wider than the crate I use. We also have a Large (I think) Precision crate. It will be the width that is the biggest issue.

How much will membership cost on a monthly, or yearly, basis? Why is trial membership mandatory? I personally don't even want to try it because I might like it. ?
It's free for a year. I am OK letting Rivian work this out while I am in my free period. Anything membership based is subject to change. My cable features have changed. My Audible membership has changed. Memberships evolve with pricing and features adjustments based on market demand and competition. This is why car manufacturer's are moving to this type of residual income model.

Can't even get the basics right. 5 passengers, 4 cup holders. 5 != 4.

The middle seat is no man's land, and if you find yourself sitting there it's likely for punishment and therefore having to clutch your scalding hot coffee in ungloved hands is also par for the course.
Someone should inform Rivian then

If the middle seat is not a seat why even include it?

I never said it wasn't a seat, I said it is rarely used, so I can understand not trying to design for it like just about every other manufacturer. The Tacoma middle seat is even more rarely used due to being narrower, but the F150 is more often used because it's wider and many are used to carry max capacity on job sites. So again, it all comes back to what the vehicle is designed for.

That's also why SUV's with captain's chairs are generally preferred over bench seats, even in ones that have the width to have a useable middle seat. Personally, I'd actually prefer them to have an option to have a fixed permanent center console with additional functionality (like Porsche does in their Panamera back seats) or in the R1S, the removeable ones that are starting to show up in some three rows.

I hate that I'm taking the bait, but here we are. How many cupholders are in your X5? I am genuinely curious and wasn't able to find the answer via a quick Google. If it's anything less than 7, I will be stunned.

Again, speak for yourself. I have every intention of using the middle seat regularly, and I'm sure I'm not alone. It's only a "punishment" if you're a large person. My family is not large.

Eight total. One in each door pocket, two in the center console, two in the rear armrest. The door pockets are actually usable for cups, not just bottles. We never use the ones in the rear armrest because 1) they aren't great (not very deep) and 2) they aren't always accessible. I would prefer to have those two relocated to either the floor or the back of the center console. My wife's old JKU had the floor cup holders, and it was certainly better than the armrest, though not ideal. The back of the center console makes the most sense IMO.

Thanks Joe.......

"In order to use Rivian Beta Membership, you are required to create and maintain a personal account (the “Rivian Account”). Rivian Account creation requires you to submit certain personal and payment information. "

I originally thought one had to participate whether they wanted to, or not, during the free period. I don't believe you do, according to the above quote. I found membership is free for an extended period, but I couldn't find where it was free for a year, on their website. It may be though...... "Once you get your vehicle, membership will be complimentary for an extended trial period."

The Rivian is only a "want " vehicle for me, to get from point A to point B, 240 miles/day max once a month, or two. I don't care about radio, or anything else, except for a smooth, comfortable ride, that has a tight turning radius......and a backup camera. I've never had one. If the vehicle operates the way it should without a membership, then it'll work for me. But, it does look like a good deal for those that would use the included features.
