Sure, carplay/aa is a decent-sized miss. Plenty of discussion on that. But non-big-gulp cupholders? Lack of integrated garage door opening? Who the hell cares? I'm happy to discuss the quibbles but it's like you've compiled a list of every miss ever mentioned in otherwise sterling reviews and are presenting them as a big deal. Sorry, but it reeks of butthurt Tesla fanboy and there's enough of that going on everywhere else. Not feeling it here on an enthusiast site.

If one of the non-trivial issues, or the freaking cupholders, is a legit deal breaker for you, I'm sure there's a thread for that. But I don't believe you don't want one because of the garage door opener. If you don't have a legit interest in these trucks, kindly move on.

Where did I say anything about "non-big-gulp cupholders"? I discussed the lack of any cupholders beyond the armrest in the back seats. If you're going to argue with me at least represent my position accurately.

And none of these issues in isolation is a dealbreaker. My entire point, as iterated in a previous post, is that many little items we've come to expect as given in new vehicles are straight-up not present in Rivian's vehicles, and the sum of these seemingly small items is a problem particularly for daily usability.

I wouldn't read that far into it. Rivian has already claimed that non-employee deliveries were occurring and that something like 1000 deliveries (total) are expected by the end of the year. This is likely just in line with their previous estimates rather than an indication of production already being ahead of schedule.

In addition, they point out that these aren't forum members, yet no one said they would be forum members - what we said is that in today's world we would hear about real deliveries - which is precisely what is occurring.

Anyways, as one that has been very critical of Rivian saying one thing and doing another, I'm very encouraged that deliveries have finally started. To achieve their 1,000 number they are likely going to have to be moving quickly these next 2 weeks. Go Rivian!

Took the words out of my mouth.

We were saying in October "seems like not much is happening, which bodes poorly for the future and the announced schedule," and sure enough, not much was happening, and then the schedule got delayed for virtually everyone in November. A handful of external deliveries only starting, and coming to light, in mid-December, seems to confirm the position of Fall skeptics.

The more I learn the more it seems Rivian has overlooked things that have come to be expected as a given in new SUVs and trucks: an integrated RF-based garage/gate opener, individual TPMS readouts, usable cup holders, CarPlay/AA, 360 camera views. I'm sure we'll discover more.

Everyone has their own personal list of things that make a vehicle work for them and these are "simple" misses from your perspective, which is valid, even if they aren't misses to others.

Pretty sure TPMS readouts will be there via OTA and I would love the 360 camera and carplay. None are deal breakers for me and the other items are irrelevant to me, but I'm still glad you point them out so someone that may see these things as important does not miss them.

Thank you, I appreciate your response! There are other elements that aren't problematic for me that other people are wrestling with, such as the motorized air vents or the charging curve. I don't fault those folks for being genuinely concerned about these things and don't shit on them for expressing those concerns. This is a great place to share those concerns, especially if Rivian is monitoring these forums.

Could be wrong here but I think the RF opener and TPMS readouts are still at least unconfirmed (and the manual suggests TPMS is definitely there, if not currently surfaced well in the UI). I feel pretty confident that both will be fixed via software; if not, I agree that they're weird omissions.

Cupholders are definitely up to personal taste and you're entitled to yours. This is a "less is more" space for me; more cupholders necessarily mean less of something else, whether it's storage, legroom, whatever. I think they struck a nice balance but to each their own.

360 cameras... I haven't yet seen an implementation that didn't seem like a gross hack, but I get that people want it. Maybe I'm weird but I want to see a more or less unprocessed perspective; I have a hard time trusting a synthesized/postprocessed 3d view that purports to represent reality; I'd rather just see an array of unmodified perspectives. ?‍

Very much this! After the past month or so I'd pretty much given up on seeing any "real person" deliveries before the March/April wave (which I'm hoping to be in).

But I'm hopeful that these couple represent a trickle that will turn into a small but real volume over the next couple months, which should be a good way to vet things and iron out inefficiencies before they get to the bulk of LE holders in the spring.

The fact that they're apparently doing things like hand-decorating them with Christmas lights definitely tells me that this isn't a rapid ramp, but I don't think it's a blip either. We'll see!

At the very least, we have our first confirmation that things like the payment portal, insurance process, delivery paperwork, etc. are not just sitting around waiting to be invented; we've now seen virtually every stage of the pipeline* from manufacturing to product to delivery. It's just a question of scaling them all. (a.k.a. the hard part ?)

Same here, but it seems like that would sort of imply that we should know most of the answers to Rivian questions by now, which I'm pretty sure we don't.

Such as what services will be removed, if we don't continue the trial membership (I know off-road towing will be removed, but what else)?

How much will membership cost on a monthly, or yearly, basis? Why is trial membership mandatory? I personally don't even want to try it because I might like it. ?

Will additional plans be available, such as internet only? Have we received any information regarding charging curves, etc. Range with the off-road package vs. standard?

Why don't we know these things?

I can't remember if we know the final destination fee, or not. Anyone else have questions? Or, are questions of this nature of no importance in the buying process? Buy now and find out later.

I'm guessing Rivian is still in the quiet period, being we've not had any information in quite a while. I guess the factory will shut down for several weeks during Christmas? Maybe we'll hear something at the end of the day on the 16th.

I'm getting the R1S and I'll take two cupholders for the front then the rest can kindly GTFO ?
More cup holders = more crap that my kids will put in them and they just get disgusting.

Obviously different for some people as not having them could make more of a mess in other areas of the car. In our case we never get soda/pop when getting fast food and our kids generally have their own quality water bottle that doesn't leak and they bring it out every time.

Kids finish what they have (food, snacks, etc.) and put it in the trash bag and take out every time in order to keep the car clean.
What is not finished gets passed up to me, our cars built in garbage disposal. A feature that will come with the R1S

Yeah, my preference is definitely informed by what happened in the back-row cupholders of my Suburban growing up in a large family. A french fry/coke slurry, given time, will produce a thriving civilization.

As an adult I'm pretty fanatical about nothing staying in the vehicle after every single drive unless it has a specific and permanent home (sunglasses go here, national parks pass goes here, leatherman goes here, your coat gets the fuck out). Even after a road trip my first step is to unpack and purge the car to protect my sanity.

(Part of what I love about the Rivian interior is it has lots of those little "permanent homes" for things, like under-seat storage in the rear for things like chargers and emergency kit, front-seat compartments for individual passenger niceties like sunglasses and chapstick, a dedicated document band in the center console - very nice.)

This is a great place to share those concerns, especially if Rivian is monitoring these forums.

I just know the digital controlled airvents and lack of physical volume knob are going to drive me crazy! Really not looking forward to those two things.

It sounds like a lot of people here want to get a Pacifica instead of an R1. I will have both. I am surprised there are no cup holders in 2nd row. It doesn't bode well for 3rd row...

I've had birds eye in all my minivans since 2013 and they all work very well. And I have seen nicer ones in Volvos and Audis. I do hope they add that OTA.
