Tripped Charging Circuit Breaker During Update

My R1T updated to 2023.38 last night. The truck was charging at 48A from my Rivian wall charger at the time, and while the update was in progress (or immediately after), it stopped charging due to an error and it suggested unplugging and plugging back in. I initially did that, but then the truck didn't even recognize that it was plugged in. Then I noticed that the wall charger light was off. Sure enough, the 60A breaker was tripped.

Has anyone else seen something like this?

Typically these things just turn into "didn't have proper torque at the breaker" or a bad breaker and lots of coincidence. With Rivian pushing an update every four weeks, it's pretty good odds.

I had almost the exact same issue with my Rivian charger after updating to 2023.38. I plugged it in today and it shut off after only a minute. My 60amp breaker didn’t trip though but the charger went blank. I do have a load miser so that may be why it didn’t trip. I reset the breaker even though it didn’t trip and plugged back in to the truck. Again, it shut off after only a minute. I talked with service but their suggestions didn’t work. I am currently using the portable charger and that is working so not the truck.

No. It tripped again about an hour later. The next day, same thing, I reset it and it tripped after about an hour of charging. Today I installed a new breaker and have been charging for 3 hours so far without interruption.

I put the charging to 26amps and it was going well for 3+ hours. When I went to increase the amps in the truck, the charging rate started to vary quite a bit. At that point, increasing or decreasing from the original 26amps I started charging at started to vary the charging rate again. When I put it all the way to 48amps, it shut down within 2 minutes. Waiting to hear back from service.

Is the EV is the non-essential circuit on the Load Miser? I believe the LM is adjustable, what amperage is it set for?

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check when I get home. Charging has been fine for the past 6 months and I have had no issues. This has only happened since the most recent update.

Hmm, doing an update while charging seems like a bad idea to me. Since the software is completely resetting, all intelligence for charge control probably goes off.

I only do an update while I'm parked in an out of the way place where, if something goes wrong, it won't block anyone and can get towed easily.

DC fast charging is specifically forbidden during an update, but being connected to a L2 charger is supposed to be ok. I've done this before at least a time or two. The truck controls the charging, so if it's resetting, the charger is idle. Nevertheless, I will be disconnecting the truck before updates from now on.
