Good info here! I had my crossbars adjusted during a service center appointment. Since then I have left them on for ski season. I will take them off soon, and will try a few re-installs to make sure they are still ok. Nice to have some things I can check myself in case not.

Adjusting it with the Allen key did the trick! I was able to make some adjustments to fix the fitment, but there is also a technique of pressing down that works for me. After the first click you have to press the latch down (relatively hard if needed) while pulling down, and that should give a satisfying second click.

Appreciate the info here. :like:

Looking to confirm the allen wrench size... I used a 3mm, but that's because I only had metric. Lots of tweaks, which helped tighten the fit. Still not getting the second click.

Hey all - thanks for the great suggestions and descriptions.

I finally got the fourth double-click. I was trying all sorts of variations and I can't remember exactly what it was that finally invoked the right magic. I do remember I was on a ladder, pushing down really hard on top and trying to simultaneously push the cover port closed.

This is all done, of course, over the giant, beautiful, and infamously fragile glass roof. The combination of trying to manipulate heavy cross bars with almost as much force as I can muster over a glass roof makes me wonder how much this particular aspect of adventure vehicle was thought through on the Rivian side.

Reading to the bitter end of the short cross bar manual, I did see "Over time, the crossbar latching mechanism may need adjustment. Contact Rivian Service if the crossbar does not securely latch in the accessory ports."

In my case "over time" means "immediately upon purchase". I've got something for the first service visit. I'm grateful it's not turtle mode!
Same problem new - on a R1T so I had an easy time doing bar-wrestling-pindowns from above. They come tight, apparently, and WILL loosen over time (1 sample: my truck), so if you can install tight, leave it be. As folks mentioned, the second click is from closing the latch mechanism: when mobile service install my spare, he looked at my latches, and at this point, rather than all four being a b***tch, he adjusted one LHS, and left the other LHS straggler-other alone: his trick was not body weight on the bar, but rather "two thumb press" dead center on the latch (centered right on that rivian logo): it clicked, so we agreed to not adjust that one.

I’ve got an issue with one of my bar ā€˜feet’. It refuses to do the 2nd latch, even after futzing with the adjustment screws for an hour today. It also won’t do the 2nd latch OFF the roof, unlike my other 3 feet. I’m wondering if something is wrong with the mechanism. Anyone had to warranty their bars?
