I'm having a hell of a time with my phone as a key lately. The proximity locks it fine as soon as a walk away. It no longer unlocks when I return to the vehicle, however. I literally have to stand next to the door now, open the app, and hit the unlock button. This behavior just started over the last two weeks. Anyone have any ideas? I have restarted everything I can think of and the behavior persists.

Your app needs to be running in the background (or at least BLE). Do you see the continuous notification for Bluetooth (it does this on Android, maybe on iOS as well)?

The app is always running. If I close it, I do get a notification to re open it... but I never kill the app unless I'm troubleshooting something. Under bluetooth connections I see one for Rivian Phone Key. It says not connected unless the vehicle is nearby.

As of 1.5.0, I frequently need to force close and reopen the app to get it to unlock the truck. iPhone 12 Pro here.

Phone stopped working completely. I guess I have to use the key fob now. What next- physical key to start the truck Rivian?

Put simply, the key system in this truck is garbage and too complicated. The phone as a key is highly temperamental. The key card is inconvenient and highly temperamental. The phone key does not work when the phone battery is dead and this creates the need to always carry a second key. The key fob works fine but does not have passive functionality. All they really need is a key fob (for which they should provide 2) with passive functionality. Cut out the other crap. End of story. This is one area where they don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

The key fob will have proximity locking/unlocking in a future software update, so at least there's that.

Actually it is getting worse. I used to pull my phone out and put it next to the door handle and it would unlock. Now, at times this does not work. Have to open the App to unlock. Rivian- concentrate on the basics first.
Same. mine has gotten progressively worse and now I'm carrying the otherwise useless fob to unlock the door.

Will be interesting to see if they can make the fob work any better than PaaK.

I've never seen that confirmed. Is that true?
It's from the Reddit AMA with the VP of Software Engineering.
