2024 R1S; Colorado. Main use case going to our mountain cabin. Last 2 miles on quite rocky, rough dirt road. In winter that final stage is not plowed so we snowshoe in and avoid driving on the really gnarly part. Bought it with 22's because snow tires available. I've had two blowouts, one on the OEM Pirelli summer tires, one on the Michelin x-ice snows (in late October before snow closed the last 2 miles and so we drove that last section). Had a Rivian maintenance check this week and tech pointed out that 22's are thin subject to flats and suggested getting a set of 20' inch AT tires and rims for non-winter use. Suggestions?

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Lots of 20" options out there for both tires and wheels. As @Glembi2 pointed out, you can go with the Dodge OE wheels.

Rivian OEM are pricey but look nice.

EVSportline, Atomic Wheels, Black Rhino, and others have wheels that will fit. For tires, if you're dealing with a rocky section of road and will be hitting sidewall, then you may want go up to an LT rated tire, which will be considerably tougher than the OE tires.

I went through 3 Pirelli OEM AT tires due to punctures, until I finally gave up and went back to all-seasons. Will have a dedicated off-road set for adventures, and roads for the rest of the year.

22” Nokian HAKKAPELIITTA 10 are awesome. We have them on our Colorado R1S. We’ve had 3 different sets of Nokian Hakkapeliittas on 3 different vehicles. They are I think they are the best tires out there, especially their winter tires.

22’s should never be driven off road. Don’t care what kind of tires. There’s just not enough sidewall. Go to 20’s if that’s where you have to drive.

The downsize to 20" wheels and tires is a very popular reason why people come to us for wheels. If you need a wheel and tire package, ours ship with everything you need and are ready to be installed as soon as they're delivered. We're offering free shipping on any orders above $2,025 right now to celebrate the new year, so this is a great time to look into downsizing.

Let me know if there's anything I can answer for you.

Crap!! I somehow totally missed the point about off-road-worthiness. Shavaloo, thanks for your post on that. Nokian does make a winter tire at 275/75 R20, the HAKKAPELIITTA LT3, and also an AT, the OUTPOST nAT (https://na.nokiantyres.com/all-terrain-tires/nokian-tyres-outpost-nat/).

There is a thread on the nAT’s as well.

Best to upgrade to 33” or 34” tires on 20” rims. If you go 33” tires (275/60R20) will save in long run as there are many options in the $200-$250 range versus paying $450+ for OEM….

The 22s are more efficient than the 275/60R20s?

I believe there at least 3-4 tires that are 2.4-2.5 MPK, but I’m not really sure what kind of efficiency people get with 22s…maybe 2.2/2.3?

Thanks to everyone for your help on this. Going to switch to 20” AT’s for both winter and summer tires. Will be selling my 22 inch tire sets and wheels come spring when I switch.
