Frozen gel packs are useless keeping icecream and sorbet frozen inside anything insulated. By the time I get home they would have melted, especially the sorbet. I use my fridge and cool it down to at least below 20F before putting anything in it. Frozen food really need to be frozen solid all the time, not just somewhat frozen.

My experience says otherwise.

By the time you put frozen stuff in your cart, get to the checkout counter, check out, get to your car it's already melted some. And i've worked at a grocery store for years in HS and college and stuff melts all the time before it gets into the barely freezing freezer. So you might be overthinking this.

You tell me I'm overthinking this when I get home and my individually packaged Island Way frozen sorbet had already melted into sorbet water. I'm good with a freezer fridge.

Haha. You must have a long drive home then.

With traffic you never know! I've always picked up the frozen stuff at the grocery isle last before paying to minimize melting. Then it's immediately into the freezer in the truck.
