So between insurance and Registration the costs with a Rivian are ridiculous. Insurance is $4000 a year and registration is $1200!!! WTF. I love the truck but no way it should be so much more than my 2018 GMC 1500 which was fully loaded. My old registration was $400 and insurance was $1200 a year. So instead of $1600 a year it is $5200!!!

Next year is actually going to be higher. Some idiot politician needs to get road money some how, so they are increasing the fees every year for EV's until the renewal equates to estimated road taxes lost because it being a EV.

Your Rivian weighs a ton more than your Silverado and your Rivian pays no gasoline tax.

$4K a year for insurance? Does that come with lube, because you sure are being bent over. That's 4 times what I pay with State Farm.

Yeah...still $1100 for our registration renewal in CO after the 1st year. Insurance is about $2k/yr for me. It's an expensive truck and expensive to repair. As for registration, I'm sure your state has tables you could've used to calculate the estimated charges before purchase.

Look at my vehicle renewal.... it's the same or increasing every year, thanks to the never-ending tax increases for transportation spending (always over budget, never on schedule).

Fortunately, @flush, you in King County have a population density that can support mass transit.

Unfortunately, you have a population density that requires EITHER mass transit OR escalating highway and road costs. Both of these options are expensive, but one is clearly better for the environment.

Most of your renewal, as you point out, is the Regional Transportation Authority excise tax at 1.1% of your vehicle's current value. That stings pretty hard, and I personally believe there should be a discount for EV's, but it will decrease as your R1 depreciates.
