I left my key fob in the vehicle and only used my phone. With the fob’s proximity off, when I got in at home (where it stayed unlocked) the car wouldn’t go without my phone, even with the fob in it. If I grabbed the fob and pressed a button it would then work, but if not, it won’t go.
That’s what I do. The fob proximity is off so it effectively is like a key card. I always have my phone with me so it works fine.

My husband and I use our phones to open the car. We use the key fob when we need to valet the car. Problem is that we don’t want to have to carry the key fob around with us every time we need to valet (we would forget to bring it with us too!)… so we have the proximity for the key fob turned off and we hide it in the car for whenever we need it.

The obvious problem here is that someone could break into the car and then find the key fob, then immediately: operate the car as an owner, find personal information like our Home/Work address in the nav… so definitely not ideal.

I was thinking if the key fob/cards could be setup to always require a pin before they work could be a solve for this issue.

Before I post a feature request on RivianTrackr, I wondered whether any of the Rivianizers have a perspective on this conundrum?
I've been requesting PIN to drive as an option for about a year now (similar to how it is in Teslas). It may (or may not) come in a future OTA...

I keep the fob in the car all the time with the battery out. Two reasons for that: 1) the fob is awful as far as battery drainage, 2) keep the battery in a different place in the R1S.
Also keep a penny or a dime with the fob for easy opening.
There is something wrong with your fob then. I have been carrying my key fob (proximity off at home, but on otherwise) for over a year and have replaced the battery once).
